Hi Guys I have a little boy who is 3 years old recently he has lost quiet a bit of weight he went from 1260-1120g.

I have taken him to the vet who can see nothing wrong with him, he is playing, eating and behaving perfectly normally just lost the weight.

For the last few weeks his weight has been stable between 1120-1130g but I would like him to put some more weight on, I know he is not an unhealthy weight but he doesnt look right. Sure other worried piggy parents know what I mean.

What I would like is recommendations for foods that will help a piggy put weight on, I know about pumpkin, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Just keep feeding them plenty of veggies and have their food bowls filled up.
Sweet Potatoes (not normal potatoes because they are too starchy), pumpkin and corn on the cob are all good weight gaining veggies and piggies (Well mine at least) love them especially corn on the cob (not corn on the cob from in a can, needs to be fresh).
Hope this helps:):)

Be aware that a healthy piggy will regain his weight on his own on a good, normal diet once he is fully recovered!

Please, don't panic; 60g is not a big weight loss, by any means - 30-50g is considered an acceptable daily variance; you need to really worry only of he's losing over 75-100g in a short time.

Rule of fist: 1-2 oz weight loss - don't worry; 3 oz amber alert ; 4 oz go to the vets asap!

I agree with Wiebke , it isnt a huge weight loss and that weight is good considering most vets advise that 1kg which is 1000grams is an ideal weight for a guinea.

if its really consering you weight him say once a week no more, but at the same time in the day as like us animals can weigh a differnt weight at differnt times of the day

Thanks for the advise guys.

I think some of you have misread original post he has gone from 1260-1120g which is a loss of 140g which is just under 5oz.

He has been to vet and now his weight is stable, would just like him to regain the weight that he lost.

Corn is a good weight gainer, the best one i have used which put tons of weight on my pig Blade who was skinny from stress(fallen out with cagemate) was rolled oats, they love them and it really does help, i would go to another vet and definantly a GP savvy vet xx

Sorry about the mistake - I saw it, but couldn't correct it as my computer chose that moment to break down.

You can give a bit more starchy food like corn or porridge oats, but please don't overdo it; they can be fattening, and that is not the kind of weight gain you want to encourage.

No problem :)):))

My pc has crashed several times (vista) need I say more rofl, I know how frustrating it is.
