Just wondering what everyone stores their piggy pellets in (photos if you have them would be ace). At the minute I have the Burgess in it's resealable bag, and their other pellets in an old Burgess bag. But it's a bit cluttered, so I'm looking for a neater option :)

I leave the pellets in their resealable bags but I put the bags and the smaller bags of hay (or whatever I can get to fit) in a large 120 litre plastic tub. Keeps everything neat and the occasional cockroach out. I often think of canisters or containers I can put the pellets in but I dont think I could store it as efficiently as I do with the small amount of space I have in this house.

I used a plastic tub that was once a big sweetie tub, it's ideal because I can store it inside my bottom hutch which is my storage for nearly everything piggy. it's short enough to fit. I also have the pet food storage kerrie mentions above, however word of warning, it's no good for outdoor use, water gathers on the lid and when you open it, the water drips down into the food. You could probably say that about most if you keep it outdoors. Lesson learnt, all food is stored inside.

Similar problem here - I don't have much space and containers are often bulky in themselves or don't fit into my 'nooks and crannies'. I use multiple small plastic tubs (from approx. 1-5 litres). They're for stuff like forage mix and food and are kept within reach then refilled as needed.

I've found hay's more of a headache, especially if the bag has holes in (I had a bag arrive with a slight rip, but also some bags inexplicably have what I can only think of as 'air' holes and both can allow hay debris to escape). I discovered completely by accident that a Large Ikea bag (only 40p!) is a perfect fit for four 2kg bags, plus it has fabric handles so it's easy enough to move.

We use an ice cream tub! So glamorous.

I keep the large bag in a large plastic storage box in the garage (with other piggy bits) and then re fill as needed. It had to be something my daughter could easily open etc without making a huge mess.

I store my food pellets in a really useful box (the girls now know what it sounds like as I open it and wheek) as for my hay, I've got a cardboard box that is open top and hide it under a desk I have to stop the dust/sun getting to it much. Holds at least two bags when they have been opened and fluffed up.

I keep my pellets in the old fashioned Roses chocolate tins which are twice the size of the ones you get now. The medow hay is kept in the bag it comes in and lies in the bottom of a double size kitchen cupboard. All the other piggie stuff, forage, smaller bags of special treat hays is on the top shelf in bags or ice cream containers.

I use lock and lock boxes for pellets and foraging stuff. I use a pop up laundry holder from Argos to store the hay, whichever bag I have opened. Unopened hay bags are stored under the C&C cage. Really Useful boxes are used to store fleece and toys next to the spare hay bags, and the incontinence and puppy pads are stacked on a shelving unit along with all of their pellets and foraging stuff.

I have a bale of Fitch which came yesterday and I don't know where to keep it. I think I need a sort out...

Sorry for the slow response, I've been ill. Thanks very much for all the replies!

It sounds like not everyone worries too much about keeping fortified food in airtight storage then? That was my main concern; how to have it stored suitably to keep vitamin C degradation to a minimum (vs other animal food where some degradation is to be expected and it's not the end of the world), but also be easily accessible for me to actually feed them.

@Flamestriker what size lock & lock boxes do you use? If I'm going to invest in something sealed I think I'd err towards that rather than the big ones Kerrie linked to. I only have 2 piggies and I feed them a range of brands rather than just buying a larger amount of one.

That link doesn't seem to work. So I think they must have stopped selling them?

The tip I was given by the rescue my two are from is to use bed linen for hay storage; single duvet covers for bales, pillowcases for smaller amounts. Keeps mess to a minimum, but still allows it to breathe.

That actually sounds like a really good idea.

I keep my nuggets in medium sized swing bins. Two different designs, one with piggy nuggets and one with bunny nuggets. ;)

It's just big enough to hold 2kg bag of nuggets...but I did have two piggies then. Now I have four and my OH has his eyes on two more in the adoption centre at P@H near where I work. I get smaller bags as the Vit C won't deteriorate by the time my piggies finish the bag.

If I increase the herd size (again!) I will be thinking of using bins or something similar.

For the hay i use a pop up linen bag from Argos which fits very nicely under the table the C&C is on.
