Truffle & Fudge's food time. They are still quite shy if we pretend to not watch them they have a run around and as soon as we talk to them they run and hide :)) One thing that is baffling us is when we come in from work they are both in the same places in their cages as when we've left them 9hrs earlier even though there's been some pellets eaten is this normal? The only other thing I can't get used to is never being able to tell when they are sleeping :)) The seem to be eating their veg each evening and grass but not many pellets and they don't seem to be drinking anything much but do you think they can get what they need from the veg?

xx

They need a pellet/nugget/musli mix to balance out their diet and also too many veggies can cause dioreahea! I give mine a small handful morning and sometimes evening too and leave a food bowl of dry food in at all times, you may find you need to try a few different foods, i did but mine are fussy lol.

Also ensure they have hay at all times, I find a hay rack helpful as its a place to keep it and doesnt get spoiled on the floor. 80% of their diet should be hay as its vital for good digestion and the grinding of it helps keep their teeth down. Hope that helps! :)

Naww, they are so cute and tiny! Great advice from gogoguineas xx>>>

What about to give some milk with nuts and dry fruit stuff friends.I think this combination will be better than only dry fruit stuff ?

Please do not give that! Dairy, seeds, nuts and dried fruit are all big NO NOs!

The right diet is unlimited hay (up to 80% odf the dialy food intake), 1 cupful (ca. 50g) of mixed veg and a topped up bowl of pellets (but change the pellets regularly and adjust the amount once there is more of an intake).

It can take some time for piggies on different pellets to make the change; it also depends on how much veg you are giving. Most young piggies have not yet learned to use the water bottle. You can use a bowl with twice daily changed water underneath at first, if you wish to, but don't be surprised to find that it has been used as a loo! Continue to change the water bottle daily.

Weigh your boys once weekly to make sure that they are growing steadily; it is also a good way for spotting illnesses and problems early on.

After 6-9 months when the boys have reached most of their adult size and weight and the rate of growth is slowing down, you can start to slowly reduce the pellets to the the 1 - 1/2 handful they will need as mature adults from 12-15 months old onwards.

What veg piggies can eat, you can find in this thread: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=42

You have a very cute pair; they will hopefully settle in soon!

The boys are girls hehe. Thanks so much for all your help I never realised this could be so worrying! They are both out tonight having a run round but I've noticed that Fudge is eating more veg as is more outgoing than Truffle at the mo, she seems to spend much more time hidden away which means Fudge gets more food. I don't really want to feed them seperately as they've been ok so far. They seem to love grass but could I overfeed on this do you think? Also should I be feeding them a special hay as they are only 6wks old they have plenty of it in their cage to eat but not sure if it's a good enough one. It's just a shop own brand.

Thanks again for your help and sorry for all the questions!
