I have a 6 month old male piggy that I have had about 3 weeks now. I have noticed that he does not drink much water. From what I have read, guinea pigs drink a ton of water...but i'd say he only drinks about 6 ounces a week. I checked his water bottle and it seems to be working fine. Is there a brand of water bottle that you have tried that works well? How much should he be drinking?

Also, I am feeding him a baby carrot, a small amount of pellet (oxbow adult), and a leaf of kale or lettuce a day along with unlimited timothy hay- is this too much? (referring to the leaf of kale and carrot, mostly).

Thanks for any advice, i seem to find contradicting information all over the internet.

Some piggies will drinkmuch more than others. They can drink up to 100ml per kg of weigh. But some just dont seem to drink a lot, dont worry too much about it so long as ** piggies drinking. The best diet should be the following:

- Unlimited good quality hay around the clock
- A small amount of commercial diet (pellets) this should be unlimited for growing piggies
- Half a cup of mixed veg (and fruit) a day (around 50g)

This isnt too much, guinea pigs are like eating machines. Go easy on the Kale, it is high in calcium, so feed this sparingly. Other veg is fine, just introduce new kinds slowly. Steer clear of too much spinch and kale though, but still can be fed in moderation.

Welcome to the forum, as Abi has said some piggies drink more than others. One of our older girls never used to drink much water. But we always give our veggies quite wet so she used to get most of her water intake through those.

Here is a link to foods list sticky http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=42

Laura also did a sticky on Food and furhter down the linked page you can see what frequency is best to feed certain veggies based on Calcium levels http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=30297

Hope this helps
