I give my Guineas a couple of slices of apple, 2 lettuce leaves, 4 tiny carrots, 1 small tomato lots of hay and guinea mix daily. Is that okay? I have just read that Guineas should not have apple daily because it can cause a sore mouth? Any
tips on fresh feed so I know I am doing it right. Thanks.

Fruit should only be given twice a week at the most.
What do you mean by guinea pig mix?
Muesli type mixes are not recommended and we are now trying to move over to grain free pellets although mine get a mix of grainfree and normal pellets. Read up again on the food information I’ve found in the guide section here.
Mine have a mix of cucumber, peppers, celery, sweetheart cabbage, romaine or gem lettuce, some different herbs, carrot every other day, cauliflower leaves, occasional apple, pear, melon, etc! The list goes on and on! They also like spinach and Kale but not on a daily basis due to the high calcium content. That’s why I suggest reading the guides here!

Guinea pig mix is just the Gerty guinea dried food mix. Not Muesli type. Okay thank you. I need to do a bit of research or I may end up making them ill. They always seem hungry. Every time I move they start squeaking for food lol.

Hi!

Your diet is much too high in fruit, which can lead to potentially fatal lip infection (cheilitis).

Please have a look at our diet guide. It has got a sample diet (with picture) which you can use as the daily base for your diet. It also lists in detail what you can feed safely how much how often if you want to add other foods.
The diet we recommend is balanced enough to contain vitamins and minerals that guinea pigs need without causing bladder stones. It also helps towards a longer life.
Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diet

You can feed a slice of apple and a slice or cherry tomato each once in a week and a chunk of carrot twice a week as extras.

Ohhh no! Will definitely cut down on fruit and read a bit more. Thank you.

A guinea pig is always hungry.
They will squeak loudly at any possibility of more food - even if they’ve just polished off a mountain of food.
