Hello everyone,

I recently found this pet food -https://www.vetuk.co.uk/guinea-pig-supplies-guinea-pig-food-c-665_667/vetuk-guinea-pig-food-10kg-p-20282 - and wondered if anyone thinks this is good as I’m currently looking to change my guinea pig food (currently on the pets at home nuggets)

Thank you in advance.

Yes, this looks fine. Make sure you also feed them hay and veggies :D

I would say no because of the alfalfa and the fairly high calcium content (over 1%). That’s probably due to the alfalfa.

Below is a link to the pellets options. You can always do a search and see what people use.

Have a shop around. If these are the ones they’re currently in then definitely change. They also have alfalfa, and salt!

:agr: I agree with @Siikibam. This food is alfalfa and wheat based. These are foods you should ideally look to avoid. Alfalfa is not suitable for piggies (other than pregnant and nursing sows) as it is too high in calcium, and wheat is a grain filler with little nutritional benefits to guinea pigs (can lead to health issues). You should ideally be looking for a pellet which is Timothy hay or grass based. You will be able to tell as hay or grass should be the first ingredient listed. The chart linked in above should help you.

finding pellets that are not alfalfa based in the UK is harder than it should be but the pets at home pellets are also alfalfa based. I've just changed my piggies to the science selective (grain free version) which are timothy based, it's not the cheapest pellet but the only timothy based pellet I could find. Piggies seem to be loving it so far.
