Hi all,
A few days ago I noticed one of my piggies was walking kind of weird, but I didn't think much of it. I didn't see them yesterday as I got an emergency appendectomy on Tuesday and my mom is taking care of them right now. I was feeling better today so I went to look at them and he wasn't walking on one of his front paws. I examined it a little bit ago and it looks like one of the pads is swollen. We just spent $600 on my rabbit for an injury to his lip and I'm really not sure if we should bring him to the vet for this. His nails are short and it doesn't look like anything is stuck in there. What could be wrong?

If your guinea pig seems like they are in pain you should definitely take them to a vet for antibiotics which are fairly cheap (I got mine for about £20) especially since the pads are swollen as you may have just found the early signs of an infection. It might be best if you separate him from your other guinea pigs until he gets better or until you can see a vet just in case it is something that is transmittible

Sorry to hear about your appendix. Mine burst back in march and i could have died if they didnt operate when they did. Get well soon

He really needs to see a vet. If he is not walking on it then his foot must be very painful. He needs pain relief if nothing else. If his foot is swollen it could be anything. We can only advise on what you should do. We are all on the Forum cos we all are crazy about piggies and want to do what is best for them.

Thank you so much! I will make him a vet appointment now.
