Hi. I was hoping for some advice. I noticed some dry/cracked skin on my guinea pigs back foot this morning. It can’t have been there long as I cut her nails two weeks ago and checked her over last weekend and didn’t notice it. I’m worried it could be bumble foot but I have never had that in the herd before. I change the bath mats and wee pads every 12 to 24 hours and keep everything clean so I wouldn’t have expected her to have it. I adopted her in September and she is quite a big piggie at 1.280kg and quite lazy, she will sit in the same spot for a long time and does wee and poo a lot compared to my other girls who are much more petite and move around a lot. Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you

Bumblefoot is open wounds on the foot. It does not look like it’s at that level but it would be worth just getting checked by a vet to ensure those cracks aren’t going to become an issue.

The thing with feet is that there is a balance - you don’t want dry cracked skin as that is how bacteria can get in and cause bumble foot but you do need the skin to be a bit tough. If you cream feet then the skin can become soft and that is also a bumblefoot risk
