hey everyone,
i have just discovered a spur on george's front foot. i have read through tutorials about clipping them, but i was just wondering if it is necessary to disinfect the area before or after clipping it? and if so, what should i use? would rubbing alcohol or peroxide be appropriate? thanks in advance :)

One of my girls has foot spurs and i just clip them like i would their nail. Foot spurs don't really need to be trimmed unless they catch on anything while the piggy is moving around.

I agree with Klee.

If they are causing a problem and need to be removed then providing you don't cut too much off, it'll just be like cutting nails (it is just dead, hard skin) You won't be breaking the surface of the skin so shouldn't need to disinfect the area.

one of my sows gets spurs , i just clip them off like nails, but i do leave them if they are not bothering her, she has one now but it's only tiny :)

No need to pre disinfect. The spur is just an area of hard skin so you will not introduce infection as you wont be clipping far enough back to reach alive skin (if you do then it will bleed a little).
