for skinny pig owners need a bit of advice x

well as you know i had Ruben my skinny guinea,well about 5 days ago i notice he had a patch of dry skin come up over night poss a day..i put E45 on it and there was also some on his leg too.. well i wondered if it was fungal so ive been using canerstan 1 % and it seems about the same so i have gone back to E45 again but ive noticed he has a few small little lump/spot looking thing come up on his lower back/bum and these too have turned dry looking.

i dont know if its normal for a skinny pig ?

also with him having no hair could he still get mites i assume he could so could this be mites?:{:{

can they have ivomec?
 
they can have ivomec and mites.

if that's what you think it is treat for it as you normally would.

Do you think its fungal? Dolly had fungal and that's a bit different.

its like a patchy cloudy bit of flakey skin about the same size a 10p and then there is little lumps on his back come up over 2 days which *** gone the same way:{
 
Get him ivomec'ed now and see how he is in a couple of days.

Hi Claire

Silly point probably but check the lump thing lower back and near his bum isn't his grease gland?

They do get dry skin patches sometimes. I use either a little neem oil on the area or best of all is Camrosa ointment - you can get this on the internet. Yes they can get mites and yes you can use ivermectin - mix with a tiny amount of oil or it just runs off......

hi no its not the greese spot there are around 5 little lumps smaller than a pea scattered up his botton back like if we got a spot on our chin about the same size but in the last 2 days they have gone dry looking.. and the patch of flakey skin is on the back of his right back leg in colour its cloudy looking will take some pictures and put them on so you can see what i mean x

Looks pretty charateristic of ringworm to me - fungal. Though I would give a mite treatment as a precaution too. Poor little man!

Ive emailed the lady i had him off and she said not to worry as it can happen if they move house or are taken from other guinea pigs (he was with) she said use Lamisil for Athlete's foot cream and it should clear up in 2 days...
 
Sounds as though she doesn't see ringworm as a big deal - I do! I haven't used the Lamisil cream before so don't know how suitable for piggies it is. I have used Caneston HC and that cleared it quickly and relieved the burning itch they get with the fungal infection. Aloe vera also soothes it well.

I know when they're stressed they can be more prone to mite/fungal breakouts. Maybe that's what she means?

HOwever, it still needs treatment. If it is fungal, then you'll find it starts clearing up as soon as you start the shampooing regime. If mites, it'll take a few days before you notice that it's maybe not looking so bad.(well, that's what I'm finding anyway, having treated a poorly rescue for mites and fungal).

All the best. Ultimately, if in doubt, take piggie to the vets. It's worth it to ease his suffering and give you peace of mind.
 
hi all i went the vets with him and the vet said he had a infection inside his body which was causing like a acne rash so put him on baytril for a month:{ i put him on it for 3 days and saw no improvments at all so i tookhim off it,,i started on the camrosa and he is back to his normal self now and skin is looking real good x
