I took my dog to the vets yesterday. There was a young couple in there with an elderly dalmation who had something wrong with his back leg. I didn't talk to them as my dog doesn't socialise well and so I kept her away from everyone. I went in for my appointment and I could hear sobbing from the room next door and guessed he had been put to sleep. When I went back to reception to pay they came out with just the lead. It really got to me, I felt so sorry for them, especially her as I think it was her dog. I just kept remembering the way the dog was saying hello to a labrador and how he went quite willingly up the steps to the consulting room, so much trust in what his owners wanted.

I really welled up while I was waiting to pay, just felt so thankful I still had my dog with me. My sister & brother-in-law are partners in a vets practice so I should be used to stuff like this but it really gets to you.

Just wanted to put something on here. Sleep well Mr dalmation.

Well i think it's lovely that you think that way love, good on you it's nice to see people who care, somebody else might not have even worried about it.

RIP Dalmation :'( :'( :'( :'(

Sadly this also happened to me about a week ago when i had Duke at the vets, i could hear the family sobbing in the consult room also, when they came out with just the lead i burst into tears and the girls at the vets had to give me tissues :-\

Like you i also love animals and i just hate to see them hurt, injured or mistreated :'(

Thank you. It's weird isn't it the things that really get to you, it was just the sight of her holding his lead and no dog. When we had our last dog put to sleep the vet came out to the house. I spent the afternoon with Sam on my lap feeding him bits of chicken, he was happy enough to the end but you still never get used to it.

I don't think I'd be any good at working in a vet's. Definitely wouldn't be able to wear any mascara ...

:'( RIP Lovely Dalmation, it sounds like you were very loved so had a good life with your people who are no doubt missing you so much. Run free at the Rainbow Bridge where your poor leg will no longer give you any pain :smitten: :'( 0:)

OMG I would have openly wept my heart out my charlies 1st anniversary of him dying is next month the day after my daughters birthday anmd I am dreading it already, I nearly da a breakdown when my first dog muffin ( hence my user name) died in 92 ,
sweet dreams dalmation your mum obvioulsy loved you lots

That made me feel so sad to read, so not surprised you were upset at the vets, after all you did actually see the poor dalmation. RIP dalmation 0:)

That's so sad :'(

It was two weeks ago yesterday that we had our Springer Spaniel put down so I know how hard it is.

I could never be a vet because I think I'd be in tears every time a pet had to be put down.

How sad! :'( I'm dreadful at the vets with other peoples pets, its happened to me a couple of times too.

I was actually in p@H once near the vet part and this couple push past me really roughly nearly knocking me over I turned round to give them a mouthful (lol!) and saw that they were carrying a dog basket with a blanket over it.
When I got outside they were just hugging each other and sobbing.......... Oh god, I got in my car and wept for them it was so sad.

RIP dalmation god bless x

I too am terrible at the vets, if see anything like that. ! :'( its bringing tears to my eyes just reading about it on here.

I could never work in a vets, I would be so upset all the time. :'( :'( :'(

Its so sad when you think he went in willingly like that even though they hate the vets normally  :'( :'( :'(  Its like he knew somehow....

My springer spaniel cross Ben was put down 4 and a half years ago now and we still havent got over him, we dont want to. Cant believe how time has flown.

RIP Mr dalmatian x

aww thats so sad for the poor owners one day I'm gonna be a vet when i finish school but thinking about having to put animals down is making me think twice about my occupational choice

RIP dalmation
