or are out of the house that many hours a day a couple of times a week...how /when/how much time do you let your pigges out for floor time/outside run time?

I've just got my timetable for uni up til xmas and OMG! I'm in every single day at least twice a week I'm in 9-5, sometimes 3 days a week, odd time 4 days a week.
My first thought was not going to see much of my kids but then my second thought was for my piggies.

Is evening times enough for them? I could let the out from say 6pm until I go to bed. Would this be enough time?
Mind you saying that, both piggies are sitting on their behinds watching TV just now and this is supposed to be exercise time :D

Hiya!

What are you studying? :D I'm no expert but I'm sure it would be ok, they will get into that routine.

I'm going to be studying Nutrition and Dietetics...after 4yrs I should be a qualified dietician.

Since seeing my timetable I keep telling myself it's only for half the year (sept-xmas and then Jan-April) , the rest of time I'll be on holidays or exam leave. But still a bit of a shock to the system...I've not been out the house working or college for so many hours for 11yrs!

They'll be fine, you just have to work out a routine :) I go to school 8.00 - 3.30 (well, that's when I leave and get home), my mum feeds them at dinner time and they usually get about 4.30 - 7.30/8.00 in their run/floor time ;)

Don't worry, you piggies will be fine.

I work shifts so there floor time varies every week but as long as they get some floor time they are happy.

I let them out as soon as I get in so now when the front door opens there is a scurry of activity followed by loud calls as they know that they are getting out. ;D

I leave 2 of mine out while I am not there :) My lounge is piggy proofed and their cages open on floor level, so they come and go as they please. The 2 on the top c & c get out in the evening and at wheekends but they have a larger cage so dont need as much floor time. Its a long story, but basically Lennie is a lounge pig and doesnt even usually sleep in his cage...he is more like a cat then a guinea pig. He sleeps either under the toy box or in his special piggie tent ;D

Well I actually work 8.30 to 6.30, and I don't get home til 7. I let them out at 7.30 or before and they trundle about until about 9 or 9.30, and then we have cuddles and then we go to bed. When I say 'we', I mean that literally - they wander around the cage until I turn their lamp off and as soon as I get into bed they hop into their hammocks and watch me til the book goes away and my lamp goes off (I have a studio flat)... anyway I digress. You'll work it out. They really don't need have hours and hours of floor time, esp. if they have adequate cage space.

I'm out from 8.30am till 6pm and I have 5 to exercise! Only one pair though who get the most "playtime" the other singles vary, Pookie my old boy only likes to go once round the room while I clean out his cage then he jumps straight back in! Bully gets tired after a while and starts lolopping everywhere! and new boy Arty just keeps running.........! I start cleaning out about 7.30 after my tea and then we just play it by ear until everyones had enough time out! Usually though they go home of thier own desire when they've had enough. Cubby & Golly get half an hour in the morning too! everyone has suitably large cages for the daytime though!

I work all day too. My piggies have a large cage so only get out for a short while at night - I have to be there when they're out though as I have 2 cats (they all get along really well but I still wouldn't like to leave them just in case). I was thinking of getting an inside play pen for them - roughly what size is best? :smitten:
