Hello! I was just wondering if I could have some advice on where to get Guinea pigs in other countries, specifically Cyprus, Thailand and Greece? We are moving house in a few weeks, and then going to travel the world. I, personally, have mixed feelings on this, as I won’t be able to get Guinea pigs for at least two years, but it’s also a really great opportunity! We are looking at Cyprus, it’s a lovely country and very warm. But there are quite a few cats there. Does anybody here have any knowledge on keeping piggies in these conditions?
Thank you in advance 🥰

So will you be waiting until you have settled to get some piggies? That would be best. Sounds like you'll have a fabulous time!
Honestly I have no idea where you could find piggies in Cyprus... I would perhaps google to see if there are any rescues first 👍

Yes, we will definitely be settled before getting precious piggies ❤️

Hi

Good that you are thinking about it now.

Please make sure that you are settled. Be aware that there is no control over the sale of stock and that vets usually haven't got the first idea about guinea pigs, including Greece and Cyprus (as we know from previous members in these countries). Good quality hay and pellets may not be necessarily available or - if imported US brands - will cost quite a lot.

You will also have to think about what happens to your piggies if you are to move on. Flight cost for pets are now horrendous and you won't be able to take them with you in the cabin. There may also be quarantining issues.

It may be easier to wait with pets until you are either back for good or have settled somewhere else for the longer term.

Enjoy seeing the world - but better leave any pets for such times when you are staying in the same place for several years to come. Your life will last long enough to fulfill your dreams but rather in sequence than all at once. ;)
