Hello, we got a new boar for our 2 girls 5 weeks ago. He has spent the time mounting them from all angles and has established himself as the #1 pig.

Our former #1 is no longer her silly, energetic, naughty self. Have any of you found this to be the case for usurped top pigs please? Her weight is good, no lumps, her teeth look okay, and she will go to the vet soon 'just in case'.

I'm hoping it's a fairly common behaviour change but I can't find anything. He must be very annoying to live with but then I do find them all laying closely together. Cheers.

Hi

That is worrying but how hot has it been in your piggy room and could your #1 suffer from the after effects of heat stroke/exhaustion or an underlying health issue that has come to the fore because of the extra pressure on the body?

Unfortunately, the symptoms are too vague to tell what could be going on. Your vet will also check the heart as part of the routine health check, I assume.

Hot Weather Management, Heat Strokes and Fly Strike

Thanks. We have them all in our living room now as it's cooler, so I don't think it's heat related but it could be.

As an example of his frequent bad behaviour, whilst doing tonight's clean up and hay, she was sitting quietly in a corner and he mounted her head on.

She was spayed in April and was given a clean bill of health. We'll arrange a vet visit for later this week (minus her male stalker).

It's obviously dominance related so there is something more serious going on. Please try to get an appointment sooner rather than later.

Good luck at the vets. ❤️

Thank you. It went well physically, her breathing, teeth, everything are good.

The vet agreed that it is the introduction of an enthusiastic 2 year old boy that has changed her behaviour. However, she's not so stressed that her weight has gone down (in fact she needs a little diet).

We had to put him in Guinea Pig Alcatraz on Friday night as our other girl was in heat and he was doing horrible things like holding her down. The vet has recommended he spends his nights in solitary confinement so both women can get their beauty sleep and not wake up with their heads being humped.
