Does anyone on here foster guinea pigs, I have been thinking a lot about it during the last couple of weeks, I am undecided about getting another of my own, but I though if I fostered then the natural course might be that I ended up keeping a couple.
I already have a big cage in the house and hutch in the shed, although I accept this might not be suitable in the winter.I was worried that because I didn't drive it might count against me. Any opinons would be great please.

hi Ruth

We run a rescue and there are times when fosterers are really essential, as they allow some fit / healthy pigs to be fostered to make room for some urgent intakes.

Different rescues vary in their foster agreements, but in our case we are happy to supply accommodation, food, hay etc. initially (and on-going if needed) although a lot of fosterers won't accept help with the food bill :) and of course we would cover vets bills while the foster is still a foster.

If a fosterer decides to offer the pig(s) a forever home, then the normal adoption agreement applies and the paperwork signed.

What is most useful for us is local fosterers, as if they are too far afield and someone wants to look at the piggies, it's a nuisance to get them back.

A lot of rescues on here rely on Fosterers. I'm sure if you decide to go ahead, it's worth contacting your local rescue in the first instance.
