I was just holding Roy and picking some wood shavings out of his fur and I felt a lump on his back. He's 5 years old. It's not hard, I poked it a bit (only to see if it was hard or not) and he didn't seem to mind me poking it. I haven't noticed this before but I don't hold him very often so I don't know how long its been there. What could this be?

Lumps are one of the trickier things to advise on as it needs examining in person to determine what it is (or is most likely to be). Worth checking with the vet. Sebaceous cysts tend to be the most common and are, in themselves, harmless.

My Eliza has a small lump just to her side near her back leg. Her's feels like a pea. She has has it for about a year now and my vet told me just to keep an eye on it and to take her back if it changed which it hasn't in all this time.

As Laura said, I suggest having it checked out by a vet if only to put your mind at rest :)

We are having the same issue right now with our pig Linney. She had a squishy lump on her lower back- the vet diagnosed it as an abscess, though I am wondering if it may have been just a cyst. It was lanced and squeezed and she is now healing up at home with an antibiotic. It's worth a trip to the vet to get it checked out.

Thank you everyone :). Freela, Roy's lump is on his back too so hopefully its the same as yours and nothing harmful. I'll try and get him to the vets this week. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay Freela to have your guinea-pig checked and for the antibiotics? Only because I take my guinea-pigs to the vet and pay with my money so I want to make sure I take enough because the vets about half an hour away so I can't really quickly go back.

Alicia, vet charges in Canada may be quite a bit different to things here, not sure if you noticed where Freela is from. :)

The average basic consultation price for vets tend to be around £20, some vets charge more others less. Any treatment and medications is then added on top; antibiotics typically only cost a few pounds.
