Just found a lump under my guinea pigs chin. Cant beilive it as I have not had him even for a week. Hes only about 10 weeks old, just dont know what I'm going to do.

Possibly an abcess? it will be a vet visit :)
try not to worry, these are perfectly treatable.

Junior has one of these a few weeks ago.
Just under his chin ... probably a small pea size or a petit pois, to be posh! :))

He didn't seem to hurt him as he still liked his chin tickled and that is why I picked it up so quickly. Within a day or so it has burst, just before I was due to take him to the vet. I bathed the "hole", kept it open for a few days so that the infection could drain away and applied antiseptic cream. It healed over nicely, but beware abscesses can turn very nasty, very quickly.

I think a vet's appointment is best to check what is it and just in case it gets worse.

Please let us know how things go.

Sounds like an abscess. I have had to deal with these three times before. They really are fairly easy to treat.

i agree with others, sounds like an abcess, just a visit to the vet will do it.

Hope all goes well.xx

I work at a vets so tend to worry more then most! We see abcesses on rabbits and they can be quite nasty. I have waited so long for a guinea pig and I just hope hes going to be ok.

I am sure all will be ok. You obviously work in the best possible place! 8;)

Best to get it checked out and please let us know what happens.

I'm sorry things have already become unexpectedly tricky.

Thing is, young piggies can be very adventerous and I would think they are maybe even more likely to get a hay poke (possible in the skin if it's sharp enough) and get it infected than older, wiser and more careful piggies!

Just text my boss and she said that it dosent sound too bad but to bring him in tomorrow. Will let you all know when I know. Love the little already and hes only been here for 4 days! I have named him I think! Dennis and his brother is going to be Malcolm!

I hope the trip to the vets goes well and it's nothing serious - probably an abscess.

Hi guys, Well you was all right its an abscess, as its only very small at the moment we are going to leave it. I have just got to montor it, its a size of a big pea so not too big at the moment.

Glad it was nothing serious and hopefully it doesn't cause him any problems.
