Hi there,

The first thing came into my head was - ask some one on this forum - to put my mind at rest.

Tonight, took revolver out, like i usually do, gave her usual cuddles, and vegs. Was shocked to find quite a bit of blood around her genitals, so cleaned this up, and as I was cleaning, it seems to come out. No idea why and never seen this before so was a major shock for me.

She was on my bed and had 3 leaks, and was still leaking tiny bit, in pinky/orange colour. She;s not been squeaking, so I've no idea if she;s in pain or not?:(

I'm also questioning whether if it is really blood, as its rather light, almost orangy. But definitely not like her urine.

I'm now really worried if this is serious.

Especially I cant do much til the morning, unless there is?
Will be wanting to take her to the vets in the morning, also will check her tonight and in the morning, hope she;s notin pain.

Would be great if anyone could put my mind to rest and give me any advice on what I can do to keep her comfortable for time being.

She seems rather quiet tonight, than usual. She's very vocal and certainly tellls me when its her dinner time, but tonight i;ve not heard her at all. She is eating & drinking & going to the toilet reguarly.

For those of you that doesnt know revolver, she is nearly 8.

I'd really appreciate any feedback, sorry for hte long thread.

Thank-you,
Lessie & Revolver x

P.s - I am definitely taking her to the vets - I only posted this because I've just noticed this, wont be able to take her til the morning.

She was absolutely fine this morning and yesterday.

I'm just after ideas or anything i should do for time being until i take her to the vets.

Just didnt want you to think i was being irresponsible.

Sounds like a urinary tract infection, perhaps maybe bladder stones ? I'm no expert though ?/ it's good she's still eating & drinking though, hopefully it's just a mild uti. Good luck at the vets tomorrow

She definitey needs a vet visit tomorrow but don;t just be fobbed off with the "urinary infection" diagnosis and "a bit of baytril" anitbiotic. .

If she has not been spayed then the symptoms you describe might be more akin to a pymometra (infection of the womb)which needs antibioitics, metacam (pain relief and anti-inflammatory) than a UTI (urinary tract infection) and you will need to monitor her weight and food intake on a daily basis until she has recovered. Syringe feeding may be necessary.

It's important that the vet you see is experenced (properly experienced) with guinea pigs so that they make a correct diagnosis. Whereabouts are you and who are you going to see? We might be able to recommemd a better vet who won;t waste your time and money becuase our vets really do understamd guinea pigs.....

Hope she recovers soon and thanx for posting.

I agree, and I do hope my vets will be thorough and accurate with revolver's symptoms.

I live in daventry (northamptonshire)

I'm hoping this will be easily treated especially i've noticed this, at a early stage, as she definitely didnt have this problem this morning.
She means the world to me, so i will do everything i can to sort her out x x

Poor piggie! My first thought would be either UTI or uterine infection/mass that is bleeding. Hopefully the vet will be able to tell you for sure. I hope the night passes uneventfully and you get good news in the morning.

HIYA,

Just a quick update, took her to the vets first thing this morning, was hell waiting for the time to come, as vet doesnt open til 9. As was getting worried and anxious, didnt want her to worsen.

Vet checked and samppled her urine, and she's definitely got a bladder infection, especially it was quite swollen down there too. So she's on baytril and we return to the vets on saturday for further treatment / checks.

Hopefully she'll repsond to the medication well. She seems ok this morning, had to pop into tescos quickly to get her basil, her number one favourite, and she munched it on the way home which i was really pleased with, as she's not eaten much over night.

Hope she'll recover, and is currently resting in her massv=i ve heap of hay!

If theres anything else i can do, do let me know, I know it was late when i posted this last night, but i was just freaking out and wanted to ensure she'd be comfortable til the morning for the vets trip.

Anyway sorry to waffle

love lessie & revolver x

Poor piggy I hope she makes a speedy recovery. If anyone knows good healing food please advise as my piggy Fudge us still having bouts of blood, sometimes in his wee but also blobs of blood. I wondered what medicine is best?

You can syrigne her extra fluids to help flush out the UTI. Did the vet give you any painkiller for her? Such as Metacam?

As she's on Baytril (baytril can sometimes upset their apetitie) it can be worth giving her a pro-biotic such as Avipro Plus http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-suppleme...probiotic-products-c-5_172/avipro-plus-p-1225 - this will help replinish some of good bacteria in her tummy.

Another excellent pro-biotic is poo soup, this is made by misxing the poo of a healthy piggie with a little water and syringing it to her. I know it sounds gross but piggies love it!

If she gets any worse or the blood doesn't clear up, please speak to your vet regarding an xray to rule out bladder stones.

Healing vibes to Revolver x

You have one of the best guinea pig specialists in the country not far away in Northampton. Simon Maddock at the Cat&Rabbit Clinic.
http://www.catandrabbit.co.uk/html/contact_us.html

I am a bit worried about the swelling.

Is the blood just when she's weeing? Or is she leaking blood? If it is the later I would suggest you seek a second opinion taking into account Pebbles above post.

I have noticed you are in Daventry, that is quite near Northampton where one of the most highly recomended piggie vet practices, his name is Simon Maddock at the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic Ltd 01604 478888

Thank-you all for the replies.

I've already ordered Avripro Plus. Will be buying cranberry light later (diluted with water) and will offer this in syringe.

I've e-mailed Cat & Rabbit Clinic (didnt know they do guinea-pig:{ ) (Cant call them due to my deafness unforunately:( )

If it wasnt for you guys, I wouldn't have known about the Cat & Rabbit Clinic.

RE: Her Bleeding - Hard to explain, as it leaks a lot, when she urinates, it comes out as pinky colour. When she's not urinating, it leaks.(tiny amounts) if this makes sense? That's why I'm still in shock, as quite frankly she's never had any major health problems, until now.

I would try to get her seen by Simon Maddock as soon as you can get an appointment!
