Hiya all,

I opened a new 4kg bag of Burgess Supa Guinea Excel today and was pouring it into my tupperware container as usual when I noticed something of a slightly different colour in it! Picked it out and it is dry food but of a slightly lighter colour, and bone shaped! Looks suspiciously like a doggie treat!

I had a quick rummage through for further bits, and found a circular, red-ish bit of some sort of dry food aswell!

I am just wondering if some stuff got mixed up at the production line? :(

Not sure what to do, I suppose I will ring them and see what they say, but do you think it is safe to give the food to my piggies once I have checked that there is no more other stuff in it?

Hiya!
yep, I would phone them and complain politely, there may be a good chance of getting a free bag or a voucher.
I would say its perfectly safe as it is all dried feed, so carefully fish out any doggy stuff and it should be fine for the rest! (tell supa guinea you had to dispose of the bag though :)))

Heh, that would be very cheeky! Tzk tzk, encouraging people to lie! :p

I just found out that the Burgess company is located only 20 minutes from me, I could actually drive over there and demand a new bag lol

I'm not sure what I'd do, but dog food is generally meaty, guinea pigs can't have meat - therefore not good that it was in the same bag... I would definitely contact them though.

personally i'd take all the food back to them with packaging and receipts. not worth the risk! and tell burgess that it would've been dangerous to your pigs and you want compensation.

As its dried food, I would say miminal contact has occurred!
I am pretty cheeky about stuff like that, I always get refunds and compensation :))

I would contact them, definitely. Burgess are usually very good customer service wise and are forever getting owners to road test new foods so I'm sure a freebie bag (preferably 10kg :))) wouldn't be too much for them.

i had a problem with burgess food. I brought the big bag of it and tipped it into a bin i use for the food and the bottom food was all moldy! i wrote to them with a sample of the food and the barcode number. they send a letter back apologising and gave £25 voucher. so its worth letting them know x

just a thought, I feed burgess to my dogs (the grey & lurcher for one and the sensitive for the other) and all their dog food is round kibbles, not bone shaped.

not that it makes much difference I suppose ... maybe they make other dog foods at the factory.

Just realised I never actually posted the result of this:

After I had found another doggy treat in a bag a while later I contacted Burgess, they said they were very sorry, were going to look into this, and sent me vouchers :-) I was very pleased.

hi same thing happend to me a while ago and they sent me vouchers

i wouldnt give the guinea pigs the food just incase its not suitable for them my opinion is to stop buying it and try a different kind your guinea pigs might like another kind better but if not go back to using the burgess stuff again!:)

Burgess Excel manufacture there food on the same line as there dog food. Which is why this is happening. I stopped using Burgess for this reason.

I can't think of the name of it 'flower shapes' think its science selective or is that dog food. The brand does not produce Guinea Pig and Dog food on the same line so safer alternative.

As Guinea Pigs, are Vegans you don't want them eating any dog food naturally.
