This morning my piggies were playing with what looks like a half shredded balloon in their cage. The only explaination is it came from their Haybox meadow hay as I chucked a huge handful in last night. Please be cautious with yours

Sadly stuff can end up in a hay field and get in with the hay when harvested considering the volumes that are being processed mechanically these days. It is always important that you check your hay when refilling the hay corner or rack in the cage.

Will definitely be more observant when refilling their hay. Was just a little shocked to find it.

😳..good job you saw it before they ate it...
I have had a dead mouse, frog in my hay - not hay box though

I'm guessing not if the OP thinks it's part of a shredded balloon.

Yet another reason not to do balloon/lantern releases.
Yea I've heard of them setting fires, not good atall, another thing is that causing fires aswell is ad blu, it fires hot soot out the back of tractors or combines can't remember, and ignites the hay, my sort of cousin is a farmer and he mentioned it. I wonder if it could contaminate hay. Probably not but a thought.

Sorry must mention, I was laughing at how stupid I was.

One of them was running around with it! They've been on watch all day in case any ate any of it, they've been eating, drinking and acting fine. Will continue to keep watch over the next few days. I am slightly glad it wasn't a dead mouse though, what a find! 🤢

It's not just fires. This part balloon ended up in a haybox but where's the rest of it? Probably in some wildlife's stomach causing problems where the animal won't see a vet because it's not a pet

Good that you are keeping watch.. hopefully they might have just ignored it.... the dead mouse was grim.. it was all flat and dehydrated.. I took it to the local vets for disposal 🤢🤢

Thankfully nobody got hurt, but stuff can get mixed sometimes when they are collecting in the field. What you could do is possibly complain to the company to get some sort of compensation and so it makes them aware of the mistake

I've had bones in a bag of hay, many years ago, I've never been so shocked when I looked in the cage. The company was very apologetic and gave coupons, but still, there's could've been all sorts of germs on those bones! 🤢
