I managed to get Frankie an emergency appt at the vets. He was fine this morning but within a few hours stopped eating and was listless. I took him to the vet who checked him over and think it’s dental issues. He’s on critical care and I have to call the vets in the morning if he’s no better. Frankies not taking the cc very well so I’ll try every couple of hours and persevere . I’ll also try mushed up pellets . I can’t get emergency care tonight as it’s not considered a life threatening condition. I have tried other vets but they all advise the same. Is there anything else I can do to help my boy. He’s had such a shite time, was part of a mass rescue and lost his buddy all in the space of a few months. He is only one year old. 😞

 Sorry Frankie is poorly.
Has he any other symptoms other than not eating? Could he have got too hot, it's very hot again today where I am?( ie heatstroke)
Will he eat fresh grass at all?
Healing vibes for Frankie cx

Dental issues don't normally suddenly cause listlessness; it is usually a more gradual process. Has your vet checked for potential GI stasis (the guts stopping working) or sudden acute heart failure? Unfortunately, other things that can cause these rather vague symptoms are much harder to diagnose. :(

I sincerely hope that Frankie can pick up on his own again!

But here are our emergency care guides in case you need to access care advice and emergency guidelines in the coming hours and especially overnight when none of us is around. I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed that you won't need them but I am including them just in case things very suddenly take a turn for the worst during the quiet hours. My thoughts are with you and Frankie!

Good luck with Frankie at the vet tomorrow, hope it nothing serious x

The vet said his heart lungs bowels etc are fine but I did think it’s very sudden to be dental. He was bar biting for his breakfast this morning and snatched food from my hand. I will try give him cc every couple of hours. Thanks for your support. I’m struggling as it is being on my own so really do appreciate it x

Just keep trying as much as he will take; that is all you can do. Please read the emergency care guide so you know when to stop if necessary.

Please don't beat yourself up if things don't go well. You are doing the very best you can do under the circumstances, and that is all that is all you can do. If one one of the organs is packing in or something major else is going wrong, not even the best vet care would be able to prevent it. :(

All you can do is hang in there and ride the tiger as best as you can wherever that is going to take you. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst, and you won't fail Frankie; whatever happens! Pets are a only ever a loan on time whose lease can be cancelled at any moment without a cancellation notice or your consent signature...

Unfortunately emergencies always come as a shock and a real punch to the gut, and they have a nasty tendency to happen at the most inconvenient of times. :(

Thank you . I’ll keep trying. Just going to take two hour naps through the night and syringe feeding between. Will keep you posted. X

All the best!

The hours in the middle of the night are hardest when you are so tired and feeling very much alone. Stay strong and hang in there!

Back to the vets again this morning. Vet thinks possible gastric issue. Frankies had anti inflammatory injection and something to try get his digestive system going. Still on 2 hr syringe feeds and water. Got to go back on Monday. Hopefully won’t need emergency vets beforehand. Will keep you posted. Many thanks for your support x
