For the last few days, Frankie has had a slightly sunken eye. Tonight it's really not right.

It's very sunken, bloodshot, clouded over, the tissues around the eye are very swollen and - going on what is described and shown in Vedra's book - he has ulcerated dermoid tissue.

He's otherwise happy enough, not holding his eye closed but it is very swollen.

I have flushed his eye with water, which has done nothing other than to clean it up but still worth trying in case there's anything stuck around the eye. Applied chloramphenicol drops and dosed him with Nurofen for the swelling.

I can't get hold of Vedra, her phone has been switched off all day, but I suspect she will want to remove the lump of tissue. For now I'm worrying and hoping it doesn't get worse before I can get him to Vedra. :...

OH MY poor guy. That looks sore, made my eyes water in fact.

Glad you know what it is and I hope Vedra rings you very soon Laura.

Get well soon Frankie!

Poor Frankie-boy! I hope that you can get hold of Vedra tomorrow!

It doesn't look the same, in terms of being swollen etc, but this is what happened to Sukie's eye once:

This was day 2 of it, I seem to remember, and the previous day it had looked worse. She was on Septrin at the time for her bladder and Metacam, and it just went down of its own accord.

Thanks everyone. :)

His eye is looking much better this morning, the swelling has reduced significantly and his eye is not looking too bloodshot any more. Still clouded over. This eye has always been very slightly sunken and prone to "weeping" when he's been asleep, but this development was out of the blue.
The lump in the eye has also shrunk, probably along with the swelling, so all in all he's not looking too terrible at the moment!

I don't know if the bloodshot and cloudy eye is a result of his reaction to the lump bothering him (e.g. the lump appeared and then he tried to scratch it away) or if the lump is part of the general inflammation, in which case it will recede and not require removal. I think the best plan of action is to wait and see how he goes today (continuing with the chloramphenicol drops and Nurofen) and if no improvement tomorrow he'll have to go see "Auntie Vedra".

I wish he could talk and tell me what actually happened. rolleyes

Sounds positive. :)

I always wondered how Sukie got her eye like it was in the photo too. I can only assume she scratched it with her claws. *wince*
