Fredo's wound!

Fred is healing nicely except for this wound I tried to get the best pictures possible but Fred was wasn't appreciating it! Doe's this look ok?

Glad he is recovering. The gorgeous guineas wound management article says it can take 22 days for a wound to heal properly. I don't have enough experience to comment but I would think as long as there's no pus or its not getting worse then it is probably nothing to worry about, but I'm sure someone more experienced will be able to tell you.
 
It looks so much worse in the flesh, but it probably isn't really as bad as I think it is rolleyes! All the other wounds have healed... maybe that was the newest one and thats why! :o
 
If you're a bit concerned you could pop him back to the vets - sometimes its worth it just for your own peace of mind. Has he finished his meds? If he has maybe he needs some more, I don't know really but I know how worrying these things are. If you're anything like me you probably check it every hour rolleyes Guinea pigs - we love them sooo much!
 
lol just every night much to Fred's hatred, It doesn't look infected or anything! I have a confession... I didn't give him the 2 days worth of Baytril becuase the vet gave him an injection, and it never looked infected! I've just been cleaning the wound.

I didn't want to give him the Baytril because it's not good for there gut :(! I did check with a few people before making that decision, I know the vet should know best but sometimes I would argue they don't and just want my money :<>! I've never had much faith in vets, and no vet is good enough to treat my Fred... I know my opinion is Warped but I just don't really like the vets and don't really think Fred needed the antibiotics.

I know I'm not qualified to make this decision but it didn't look infected :(!
 
Fred's sore looks like its healing nicely,no need to be alarmed,in future though i would give him the meds like the vet suggested as it could have easily not had such a good ending,if they are competent with pigs then you should trust themxx
 
I know Baytril is a bit rough on them and to be honest if it wasn't infected in the first place then you're right not to give it to him. I prefer the natural methods personally and have treated minor injuries with a bit of aloe vera gel only (I don't even give medicines to my kids unless totally necessary). Vets are difficult I agree! Mine isn't too bad with most animals and is across the road from me so very handy but not that brill with guineas (gave my George a GA, did his teeth a bit short:( )

ouch that isnt good as there is no need for GA for that
 
The vet was lovely the first time I've been to her, and I was very stressed as I had just risked my hands in the process of separating Marvin and Fred, I kept thowing the jacket over them but they were entwind and rolling everywere, so I was a tad upset by the point of getting Fred to the Vets so just agreed with what she said :(!
 
I know that now I have found this forum but unfortunately when Georgie was sick I had full faith in the vets ability. There's no way it would happen again, I just wish I had known before:( The vet did mention after George has passed that the machine they used to grind his teeth was new and they hadn't used it much.

Fred is my first pet since staying in NI, so don't know any :(! this Vet was recommended by Assisi the rescue, so they are probably good with piggies infairness!

no doubt they are good but if your not comfortable with them then maybe they arent the right vet for you or fred,there are many people on here who could probably help you fibd a good one near you xx

There isn't many people from here and infairness, I don't really think it is the vet, I think it's more me! I am generally scared of vets, they are right up there with the dentist!

lol! i can sympathise with you though,i lost my first piggy mainly due to misdiagnosis and incorrect treatment:(,i have since found a great vet who ironically just did an extra 9 months of study on small animals focusing on GP's in the UK who has now returned to OZ,i feel much more at ease now so it goes to show that the right vet is out there for even the most wary x

:(|):(|),well hopefully you eventually feel better with your vet,i used to be so concerned that i relied on the forum to back up what the vet had said,and usually the vet ended up being wrong so gut instinct is correct,
either that or your just an obsessive piggy mum which is understandable xx
 
His wound doesn't look bad Joanne, as you say it is hard to tell for sure from the pictures but it doesn't look infected; just taking its time to heal. :)

I used to visit the Crumlin surgery.

There was one vet who was good with piggies, and who did listen and was willing to work with me. Unfortunately I never got his name!
