I quite fancy having the pigs able to free range and a pic on FB today has got me thinking about it. My only experience of not in the cage involved a mad dash to hide under the coffee table. So, how do you know if they'll be ok? Or will they just dash under something and never come out...?

I am guessing you would have to 'piggie proof' a bit first so that they couldn't disappear or injure themselves.
We do this occasional in the bathroom, as it is quite easy to piggie proof and a tile floor means it is also easy to clean afterwards.
To be honest the pigs quite like it, but they don't go mad dashing about or anything. I think they find the space a bit overwhelming, but I guess if they were used to it they would get bolder.

Mine free range the dining room at weekends and they got used to it pretty quick. They have their pen which they are able to hop in and out of to toilet / nap. They do 'hide' under the table and chairs or behind tenge curtains but they potter around the room and do zoomies too

I have piggy proofed using C&C grids - make sure to keep the floor clean of anything you don't want chewed! I've lost expensive headphones, guitar leads and shoelaces to piggy teeth.

They have gotten under my sofa and made a mess under there too!

They will get used to it and start chewing! Our dining room is relatively piggy proof naturally as they can't reach the computer power cable or the lamp cable. But they have chewed the walls . . . Not a lot I could do about that! But they haven't chewed the curtains which I'm very pleased about

I've let mine have free run of the hall before, but not recently because, uh, it's too much of a mess heh. I like letting them run and I think Comet enjoys the chance to get up to some exploring, but Blitzen isn't really keen. I do have to make sure I'm not expecting visitors though - I live in a first floor flat (second floor for the Americans) and the concrete stairwell is right outside my door, so I wouldn't run the risk of an escapee

Hopefully once I'm feeling 100% again, I'll be able to get them back out there. B is beginning to settle down, so I think he may enjoy it a bit more, or at least be willing to let Comet act as a bodyguard.

I let mine free range in my living room and my bedroom but there's a chest downstairs that they keep going under so gotta put something round the bottom to block it off as if they go under there, they're a nightmare to get out lol
