Sorry for the awkward title not really sure how to word it. I have two boars and I’m noticing less poo. I used to wake up to 30 something of them and now it’s less, I offer hay in every which way possible, hay bay, hay tray and toys which can be stuffed with hay. One boar has a possible chest infection if that could clue into it or maybe I’m overthinking as I do tend to find poo in the hay as well as on the fleece now. Do they poo less as they grow up or should I be monitoring this closely?

To add to this they’re eating just fine, hoovering up their pellets and loving their hay and veggies

Output reflects input. If you are genuinely seeing less poop then it can be an indication they aren’t eating enough.
Are their weights stable/going up?

My boy with the chest infection has gone down a little and my other one seems to be stable. Are there ways I can encourage them to eat even more hay?

Monitoring it would be a good idea. Weighing regularly to be sure they are eating enough.

I find offering different types of hay can go a long way to keeping them interested in it. My two have multiple hays in their hutch at any one time - they are bedded on meadow hay and have the oxbow Timothy hay/orchard grass blend in their hay racks.

Right now they’re on meadow hay - will put Timothy hay in there as well. Thank you xx

Keep Timothy in racks as it is sharper and can cause eye pokes
Also giving it to them in different ways - piles, racks, stuffing it in boxes, mixing a little forage into it - can also keep them interested

I don’t have a rack at the minute I’ll order one online, I do however have a hay sack that they love. I do have a load of forage as well so I’ll mix that in and get some boxes. Thank you xx

I find the best way to get mine to eat hay is to top the boxes up with a fresh handful several times a day. As soon as a fresh hay goes in the hay box they start eating it.
