I really enjoy foraging for (free!) wild food for my guinea pigs on my walks. I read that you can give guinea pigs fresh nettles and blackberry leaves, I just wanted to check this is right? - As I’ll take some garden gloves to pick them on my next walk! Xx

Yes they can eat them but I believe most people dry them before feeding to the piggies (stops the nettles being stingy and means you can store and keep it to use during the winter months when they aren’t growing )

I have fed nettles, but followed the guidance on here and let them wilt for a while, before feeding them to the piggies. Drying them is a good idea!

Blackberry leaves are fine as they come but I would dry the nettles. I hang mine tied in bunches upside down in the greenhouse.

Revo tried it fresh today. Just a touch from the nose, and it didn't seem very pleasant, a bit like lemon. So I gave a hug and treats to make up for it.

I should have double-checked here before giving it fresh. Hence, we're back on board !

(in my defence I eat fresh nettle myself...)
