My boar was neutered today. Brought him home this evening. He is now in his igloo making sad whimpering noises and I feel awful! Any advice on how to make him more comfortable?

Aww you have nothing to feel guilty for. Just ensure he is warm. Is he eating ok? Maybe his favourite food would help.

Here are tips for post op care: http://www.guinealynx.info/postop.html

Please check for any swellings etc. as sometimes piggies can have allergic reactions to the stitching material. Have your boy seen tomorrow if he is still in pain.

Please make sure that he is eating.

Thank you. I know it will be great when he gets his wife but right now I feel bad.
I have put his favourites - parsley and cucumber - in front of him but he is just looking at it at the mo. I want to move him into his house so he is on soft blankets and warmer but am scared of hurting him.
Is the chirping sad noise normal? I have metacam from my other pets. Should I give him some? Not sure how much/little though.

Poor little Goofy, I hope he soon feels better - I'm sure he is feeling very sorry for himself this evening bless him. Will all be worth it when he gets to meet his new wife in due coursex)

oh dont feel bad... think about how happy he will be in a few weeks with some wifeys...
I had a boy neutered today... hes still in the vets as he hasnt poo'ed since comming round and didnt come round great...

just leave him alone... somewhere quiet where he wont get stressed... and give him some nice food and he'll be fine... he's just sulking at the moment... he'll get over it... :))
x

Did you get given any critical care incase he wasn't up to eating? I remember Peter didn't want to touch his food that night so I made up the critical care and we had a lot of lap time and he was eating it straight off the spoon

p.s. I felt guilty after doing it as well even though it was so he could live with my two girls

Awe poor little guy. Did the Vet send you home with pain meds? Mine did that for my guy. Hope he feels better soon.

Metacam would be ok, but rin your vet first if you really feel he should have it, also the dose is tiny, literaly a drop, my old piggy was on it long term. He will be sorry for himself for the next few days, but it's understandable. He will be sore! Like everyone else has said, keep him warm and make sure he's eating. A lot of the time when they feel unwell they wont do anything if they are being watched by our beady human eyes!

I would suggest metacam if he seems to be feeling really sorry for himself, it's unlikely to do any harm long term if he is just sulking and not in pain, but at least he will have had it. doseage for Metacam can vary considerably, though it is generally very low, it's not much to read but this page
gives a suggested dose of 0.2mg per kilo. :)
