Thought i’d make a thread for my piggies and to introduce myself a bit. I did introduce myself back when I joined the forum but its been a good few years!
I’m Freya and I’m currently at uni studying to be a midwife, which does mean i’m away from my piggies a lot of the time but my family all look after them well and send me regular pigtures and updates! I’ve had pigs all my life but never really got my own until i was about 14/15 when i decided I wanted some responsibility. That’s when i got my boys Smudge 🌈and Smokey🌈IMG_5646.webp
Both lived to the ripe old age of 6 and taught me so much about piggie care, along with helping me discover this forum.

When I lost Smudge I decided I would look for a neutered boar to bond with Smokey so I could eventually have a harem; this is where Winston comes in

Winston was a delight to bond with Smokey and it was love at first sight. Unfortunately Winston being 11 months at the time was much more keen to play than 6 year old Smokey who wanted to enjoy his retirement😆
When I lost Smokey a couple of weeks ago I went in search of some ladies for Winston, this is where Syrup and Rosie come in

Unfortunately after two failed bonding attempts I (along with everyone’s kind help on the forum) called it a fail and the girls will be going back to the rescue to find their forever homes. The good news is that the rescue have agreed the girls can stay until they have a pair/group of girls I can adopt so that Winston still has some company. So Rosie and Syrup are currently my foster piggies!

That’s a brief history of my piggie journey so far and I hope to keep you all updated when I can (so long as life doesn’t get too hectic), since I see the lovely, kind and helpful community on here and would like to be a part of it😊
Also thank you to everyone that helped me with the Winston/Rosie/Syrup bonding saga it’s been a week full of ups and downs, these pigs don’t half keep us slaves worried and busy!

A bittersweet morning with it being the last time I’ll give Rosie and Syrup their breakfast as I’m dropping them off and picking the new girlies up tonight 😔 I’m really going to miss them since they both have such huge piggie personalities, Rosie obviously has a constant empty belly and will shout and shout and shout until I bring something to her liking then once she’s finished that the cycle starts again! And Syrup’s such a sweet little pig I think she must have been through a lot so I’m glad her and Rosie will be going to their forever home together 🧡IMG_7915.webpIMG_7920.webpIMG_7925.webp

Have now dropped Rosie and Syrup off, the fosterer is so lovely and had Rosie and Syrup for a while before I adopted them so she was quite excited they were back with her for a little bit and she said she’d make sure they’re going to a lovely home and will let me know once they’re adopted so that’s eased my mind a lot. We then swapped and got the new girls Willow (white) and Nutmeg (white and ginger) from her, they’re so tiny as only 4/5 months old and very frightened as they’ve not had much experience with handling. Managed to sneak a picture when they were both frozen with fear🥺 but I peaked in after we’d left them alone with the lights off and heard them chatting to each other and Winston ☺️.IMG_7926.webp

Just an update on the new girls!
Unfortunately I had to head back to uni on Wednesday so have once again passed the piggie slave baton on to my mum while I’m away.
The girls have been getting more confident and are now coming out of hides a lot more - unless they hear someone then they run to safety, they’ve had some handling and lap time since we don’t think they’ve ever been handled, initially they were terrified but they are now starting to eat something during lap time! Willow is very chatty with Winston but nutmeg is definitely more dominant and keeps kicking Willow out of the hide she’s in🤣
It was weigh day today!
Winston came in at a grand 972g (post haircut)
Willow was 606g and Nutmeg was 769g.
We’re planning on doing the bonding next Saturday when I will be there so that this gives plenty of time for the girls to settle in as we don’t want them to just be frozen with fear during the bonding while we’re staring at them🤣 fingers crossed all will go well on Saturday though, I’m hoping since they’re younger and have been with a neutered boar before they will be more accepting.

Bonding day is tomorrow!
I’m feeling anxious just because of the unsuccessful bonding of Winston with Rosie and Syrup. Hopefully since these girls are younger they will be more accepting🤞🏼. Going to spend today reading and re-reading the bonding guides! The main thing i’m worried about is the fact that the girls are so untame and have clearly had a lack of socialising with humans that they run away at every noise or whenever someone’s there so us watching them like a hawk during the bonding is going to be interesting! I’m planning on covering the bonding pen with a blanket so they at least feel a bit of safety but i am a bit concerned they’re going to be too scared with us there that the bonding won’t progress. We have given them a week and half to settle in including lots of handling though so I feel we’ve done everything we can to prepare them.
Will keep everyone updated with how it goes!

I might be talking utter rubbish but could that be a possible advantage? I'm thinking that it might make them more receptive to guinea pig behaviour?
I am ever the optimist. Good luck 🤞

Possibly! Maybe they’ll also be watching Winston’s behaviour a lot more as well 🤞🏽

Thank you everyone!

Got a lovely picture of the 5 minutes of peace where they were all eating hay together 🥰🤩
The girls have practically changed over night and seem so settled, they were never out in the open with us there before, Winston is definitely showing them we’re not that scary! They still haven’t taken food from our hands though but I’m sure that will come with time.
