Hi guys I really don't k ow what to do my fridge has broken I have ordered a new one but won't be here till Thursday
Not sure what I can give the girls I can't miss there veg
What's are your ideas
Tha k you

You can keep some veg fresh by putting it into water like a bunch of flowers. I think celery and spring greens would probs last a couple of days. Perhaps cut off the brown bits that have been in the water and change the water twice a day.

I would buy three peppers and just cut what you need, one portion from one pepper a day and throw the rest out.

Kinda wasteful but that's what I would do and do the same from a package of mini cucumbers.

If you are not using your heating yet veg doesn't need to be in a fridge to stay fresh for a couple of days in the UK this time of year. In a cool spot out of the sun or a cool dark cupboard should be okay. I would stand the base of lettuce in a bowl of water but most other veg will be okay. If you have a cool box you could use that.
Most people didn't have fridges when I was a child, we had larders. Milk was kept cool standing in a bowl of cold water or on a marble slab. We still have the old larder in this house although it mostly contains piggy fleece and hay these days.

I agree with @piggieminder .

Just keeping the veg cool and dark will prolong its life. You don't have to throw any started veg away, just the bits that have gone soft or brown that should not be eaten; cut around them.

But your veg is going to last for the next 3 days without it all going off; and even if it did, your piggies can actually happily survive without veg for a few days without taking any harm, as long as they have plenty of hay. Anything else apart from hay is supplement.
You can give a little bit more pellets or forage for some days (not for the long term) if you are out of veg but plain hay will also do. We humans can survive on bread only for quite a while; all the other food groups are just the filler in a sandwich, when you look at a piggy diet. ;)

I completely agree with piggieminder as well.

I wouldn’t be concerned by this when it comes to veg. I’d just keep their diet exactly the same and store the veg on the worktop, it will be absolutely fine for many days.
Half the time my peppers don’t make it to the fridge, and stay in a bowl on the worktop anyway. They get eaten so fast in my house (between the piggies and the humans) to warrant taking up fridge space!

(Don’t forget they can only have carrot (sugars) and tomato (acidity) once a week).

Thank.you guys I have manage to get lettuce celery tomatoes and carrots not the best veg but only couple of days and I think if didn't give the girls veg they would not be pleased 🤣🤣
Your piggies have a very caring and devoted slave 🥰

That is great news. All the best. You can still buy fresh veg tomorrow. It won't come to any harm if the fridge takes a few more hours to fully cool down.

Very much so 🤣soon as fridge broke thought what am I gunna do for them
This belongs in the "You know you're a piggy slave when ..." thread 😁
You're definitely a true piggy slave when your first thought was " where am I going to keep the piggies' veg?" not "where am I going to keep the milk for my tea / chill my prosecco?"
You-know-you're-a-true-piggy-slave-when...

Or you can eat the remainder of the pepper.
Roast pepper with balsamic vinegar is good.
