cavy love

Hi
as some of you may know i've recently lost a very dear special piggie Mimi who is very very sorely missed. :'( :'( :'(
well this has left pansy on her own yet again, so i think i need to get her a friend. as hard as it is for me to come to terms with the loss of mimi and thinking about getting a new one, it's selfish to put that before pansy. Especially as i'm so heartbroken it'll take a long time for me to get over her. I am going to put a post on here about mimi, as Glynis suggested, when i feel ready. O0
So do you think it's the right decision?
I don't know how to go about it though. There's no rescue here and the only other animal shelters (RSPCA and Friends of the Animals) don't have any girlie piggies on their own at the moment. Should i get one from a pet shop? Or a breeder? :-\ :(
oh Mimi i miss you so much :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

aw I'm so sorry :'( RIP Mimi 0:)

i know it will be hard but it would be nice to get pansy a friend, could we arrange any piggie trains for you? :)

Thanks
Yeah :) well i don't know, but I'm in an awkward place! ::) Isle Of Wight :o

Aww it must be such a difficult decision and everyone is different - some people want to get another one straight away, others take longer. Only you can know that! I agree with MNP, it would be nice for Pansy to have a friend, if you can face it! Do you get across to the mainland much?

Good luck in your search, hopefully we'll be able to get a rescue pig to you somehow! Or put up a wanted ad - it might be that someone else near you is looking to rehome their pig, that would be better than a pet shop / breeder?

Sophie

Yeah you are in a difficult place ;D ;D yeah maybe a wanted ad in some petshops or vets?

hehe trust me! ::) well i can get to the mainland but i don't think it's fair on the piggie to come on a noisy ferry? :-\ Plus i'm ill so it would be too much for me, but Mum could always go if i could persuade her! ;D >:D
yeah it's really hard and if it was just me i'd wait till the summer or something but pansy's lonely and it's selfish :(
it's hit me so hard losing mimi i'm distraught :'(
I'v e-mailed someone local who has a cavy club (showing :tickedoff: ) but i asked if he knew of anyone needing to rehome a sow O0 i could always phone the vets too, they may know :-\ ohhh i keep crying! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( i'm heartbroken

:'( i feel so sorry for you Izzy, it must be really hard. is there no way you could try her with Peony, Bluebell and Bertie? you never know it could just work this time :-\ x

tried that cos she was squealing so much when they came out for floor time :o but peony started attacking her and she was shaking in a corner so that didn't work :( i think peony still sees them as her babies and wants to protect them :smitten:
this morning when i put their breakfast in bertie was still half asleep. peony and bluebell came out for food but peony went back in to bertie and woke him up and rounded him out! aww :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
thanks emma, it really is hard i'm just so heart broken, bursting into tears every five minutes! everything sets me off i miss her so much and love her so much, never been this upset in my life! :'(

Oh Izzy as I said to you it's ok to cry, it is a release. You know it could still work with your group. Fleur chattered and bullied the babes at first but she is totally fine now, as long as no fighting happens it may be worth while just seeing what happens.

Here if you need a natter, well, until Emily kicks me off the computer!

Hugs,

Louise

I know what you mean, Bee attacked everyone i put her with except her sisiter, Maggie isnt too keen on other pigs either apart from Ralfie. Maybe give it one more go, i dont know :( wish we could help you more :( where about would you be in the U.K if you came over? x

well i tried twice. the second time they didn't notice her for a while but when bertie came to greet her (rumble and hump) ::) >:D
she ran away so fast and sat shaking again. I could try again, but my hutches wouldn't be big enough :-\
I could be in Southampton or Portsmouth sort of areas O0 thanks Lou, i know it's ok to cry it's just i've made my eyes all scratchy! and i've come up in a huge rash due to sadness ::) >:(

That's a great idea Ron. Izzy Eccles is from a vets (his pregnant mum was abandoned) and sometimes sadly animals are abandoned there. You never know you may touch lucky.

:)

I agree vets are a good idea, also (harsh but true) often breeders want to get rid of old breeding stock, so you may find they have something for you, good luck :)

hoping you find a friend for pansy! what if you spilt your herd up and took either peony or bluebell in with pansy and leave bertie with who ever is left. :-\ :-\ :-\ hoping you work something out. sending hugs and cuddles for you and your fur babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and RIP sweet mimi! 0:) 0:) 0:)

well they're such a lovely family group, I wouldn't like to split them up and I've already tried Bertie with Pansy but they REALLY didn't get on, i tried so many times, and thats why we got Mimi. :smitten: :smitten:
I miss her so much, it hurts soooo much and i keep bursting into tears! :( The man's wife that I mentioned e-mailed back and said she'll phone round her club members today and see if there's anyone needing to rehome, so we'll see.
this is killing me inside, but i know it's best for pansy and it'll be nice having a new piggie, i'll get over it, just wish it could be mimi :'( :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: ahhh well :'(

have you asked the RSPCA etc what else they could & might be getting? Also why only looking for female could you not get a neutred male from RSPCA or such like even if they charge you the extra £30 to have it done?
Si

well they said they don't know when or if they'll be getting anymore in soon. well pansy doesn't really do males she gets moody with them if they mount or rumble etc. and bertie would go looney if he heard another male around ;) i would much prefer to rescue it's so annoying. :( i could try the p@h rescue section, but they're not really rescued some said so :-\

What can you do Izzy, there are no rescues near you. I personally think in your situation getting a P@H adoption pig is better than going to a breeder who is getting rid of old stock. ;)

x

yeah, i'll have a look, i don't like breeders, i suppose someone has to :-\>:( i'll also see about the vets and see if this lady comes up with anyone needing to rehome :-\

Something will turn up it usually does. I was the same looking for a friend for Eccles. Keep us posted. Fingers crossed!

I would of thought the RSPCA would spread them out if as it sounds they have spaces at your place but for example another area of country maybe overrun with them. I could be very wrong but can't hurt to ask them such questions & see what they can save from other RSCA i imagine they have deliveries coming in from mainland & it's not a major trip so i would of thought they could do something.....

Have you tried ringing the RSPCA in Bournemouth &/or Poole/east dorset or any other relatively locally i'm sure if they had too many they would do what they could to get some to the RSPCA in Isle of Wight?

Like i say worth a try.
Si

thanks :smitten: it's really hard, i just know i have to put pansy before me and it will be nice to get a new one, i'm just so heartbroken over mimi :smitten: well i suppose so scooby si, but i just can't help thinking it's not fair on the piggies to have to come over on a ferry, and surely they'd have said when i asked if they're getting some from somewhere else :-\

they were probably only commenting on what they knew of coming in thou & not what they could get if they did some more digging. Sure ferry wouldn't be ideal but if it's to get a really needy pig to a good home i'm sure it woudl be worth it. Sounds liek your trying to do the best so dont stress but ask the question it can't hurt. Dont ask dont get n all that.
Si

phoned the RSPCA and they don't have any in and don't think it would be fair to ship them over so :-\
I haven't heard from the cavy club man, so i'm assuming he hasn't found any, and it would mean waiting a few weeks for his sow to have her babies so i think i need to get her one soon :-\ looked on freeads etc. nothing >:(
I don't know what to do, i guess i'll have to get one from a pet shop, i just don't want to run the risk of her being pregnant again like peony was :-\ ahhhh :(

we're going to phone the vets later as well, i think thats it then, it'll have to be a pet shop, unless they suddenly have a rescue piggie in the p@h rescue section :-\

vets said they don't know or have any needing rehoming, but the receptionist insisted on giving our phone number to a couple of breeders so we'll see. nothing but a bunny in the p@h rescue section looked in the local newspapers, and free ads a big fat nothing! So it looks like a pet shop or breeder :-\ ahh well at least she'll have a friend. i'm finding it so hard thinking about getting another one because of the pain in my heart, but i know pansy needs a friend and it will probably cheer me up in the end, having a new little bub! :smitten:

Good luck with your search - it seems such a shame, when there are so many on the mainland needing home! How annoying. Perhaps someone needs to start a rescue where you are!

thanks. i know it makes me so flippin annoyed! :tickedoff: ;D yeah you never know one day i might! i haven't come accross any other piggie mad islanders yet! ;D

There must be other pigs on the island somewhere! :) - you'd think so, anyway!

Hope a pig turns up for you soon - I do think that animals have a way of finding their person, our dogs have always just happened to come along... like they were looking for us. Hope it's the same with your next piggy!
