Hello!

I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Friendly Timothy Readigrass (pictured below). My work got some in on our delivery by accident so I bought a couple of bags to bring home and try, on the back it says that it's perfectly fine for Degu's and Chinchilla's so it can't be too high in anything bad, can it? I've given them the Friendly Oat Grass before (blue bag) as a treat and a bit of forage to help them eat their hay more but just wondered what everyone's thoughts on the Timothy version is? :)

All my piggies and rabbits love it but it’s only to be used as an occasional treat! I do try putting it through the rabbits hay though as Nevis isn’t great at eating his hay!

I put it through my piggies hay for the exact same reason! I've never seen the pink bags before, only the green and blue so just wondered if it was any better than the others but I think it's just another type of grass haha

Does anyone know if this Timothy version of Readigrass has a lower calcium content than the ordinary (green) Readigrass? Struggling to find the nutritional analysis of it.

Also I might be being a bit thick here, but if the calcium is 0.55% why is it considered too high to be fed daily, if the calcium content in nuggets is commonly higher at around 0.8 - 0.9%? Sorry if I'm missing something.

I've never used the timothy hay one, but use the normal one regularly.

Thanks Ruth! Any idea on the calcium levels being ok or too high for daily use as I’ve read it shouldn’t be given daily?

Definitely too high in calcium for every day. I feed mine a 2-3 times a week just a sprinkling over their hay, they love it :)

Ok thank you. Odd that most pellets are higher in calcium - perhaps it’s the amount piggies potentially might consume daily? Only reason I can think of.

I believe the timothy hay from the Friendly Readigrass company (in the purple/pink bag) is perfectly fine to use as a regular hay, it's just the "normal" readigrass (green bag) that you can't. I give that as a treat around once a week, usually using the oat grass (blue bag) more than the green. My pigs just love their work :))

Do you happen to know what the calcium content of it is @Cavy Kung-Fu please? I can only find the nutritional analysis of the normal green one!

Um I used to but I have no idea now haha. I contacted them directly for details and free samples but this was almost 3 years ago now!

I believe it's a mix of timothy and rye grass? Timothy is low in calcium anyway which is why I feed it, but I get big 9kg bales online now haha.
