I finally brought friend's unwanted little sow, Lara, to my home today, and currently trying my best to make her feel at home. Needless to say, I have been very busy.

I have been raising my boy Finn, whose favorite activity is eating three square meals a day in addition to the endless supply of hay. Finn and Lara will be living in separate cages as I never planned on getting a sow. It just happened that a little girl Lara needed a home, so I took her in. Friend stated that I was their best candidate for a pet parent.

My friend's sow, Lara, hasn't had any vegetables while living with this friend for about a month. When I brought her home today, she was eating vegetables continuously. I gave her romaine lettuce, cilantro, and little bit of carrot, and when I come back, everything was gone. I gave her more lettuce and cilantro, and it is gone again. I gave small amount of apple, and it is gone.

My guess is Lara was starving while in care of this friend. She only got small amount of hay and nothing much anything else. Should I continue to feed her vegetable or slow down the rate of vegetables?

Poor thing! I would feed her the amount of veggies you feed Finn, but put heaps of hay in her cage, as hay should be at least 80% of their diet.

You want to make sure that you keep the veggies coming on a schedule. You don't want to feed her to much because that a lot of water going into her. Glad she's doing ok!

My boy Finn is 6 months old and much bigger than Lara who is just 2 months old. Finn has been getting three serving of vegetables a day and he is pretty healthy with shiny fur, and a very happy boy.

When I fed Lara today, she was eating much more than my Finn who is at least 2 times bigger than her. This surprised me a bit because I feel my Finn was born to eat.

You need to be careful and introduce veg slowly into her diet if she's not used to them as you may give her diarrheoa and a bad tum if she has never had them before. What she should be eatng mostly is hay and lots of it! It's lovely that you have taken her in when you were reluctant to take on another piggy and great that she likes veg but you must introduce them gradually.

Well done for giving Lara a home. She’s a lucky girl.
Can’t add to what others have said about veggies.

Your Finn sounds like my Jemimah when it comes to eating.
She will plead starvation and neglect just minutes after the last lot of veggies have been eaten.
