Frisky baby boar - aargh!

I have a baby (which I'm 99% is a boar) - he is two weeks and 5 days old, but has started rumblestrutting and attempting to mount his mum. I'm not sure whether he's been successful in this or not as I'm not around during the day... :{

My question is - what do it do!? I was planning to separate them on Saturday (as he will then be 3 weeks old) - but I'm worried about whether he might be successful. He's currently still suckling from mum, and he's also only 250g - so is it unlikely that he would manage to actually get her pregnant?

Please help - I'm really worrying about it - but I don't have another cage yet! mallethead

I have separated frisky little ones at 17 days and they survived really well. You can continue to weigh him, to monitor weight. He will only need a small cage if he is to be on his own for a while, I usually stick a cuddly toy in with little separated boars. You could always give him some goats milk with oats or bread soaked as a supplement too. It is unlikely that he will get mum pregnant yet, but the 21 days is only a guideline. x

ooh dear! Our 6 week old pup is a bit on the frisky side and has mounted Patch and Gizzy...

It would be funny if it wasn't going to end in tears!

Hi,

They do start 'practising' early don't they. As it is a matter of only a couple of days I would seperate him, as long as he is eating the hay etc okay. I know my babies were eating hay veg and pellets at a week old

Thanks guys! Unfortunately I couldn't find anything to keep him in... So he's going to have to stay in with mum until tomorrow. Weirdly,he only seems to try it on during free range time. Why is that!?!
Am getting the babies sexed tomorrow so will let you know what happens! it would be funny if he was actually a sow!
