Not having a great week with my many piggies this week, so far 2 have gone down with an extremely nasty URI infection.

I found Stewart Little with it yesterday, and he really was very poorly, so started him on Baytril immediately, Today I discovered My older pig Frodo in the cage above also had it , and he is even worse than Stewie was and with significant weight loss, He was fine just a few days ago when I handled him, and went into the run in the garden with no illness visible at all.
Stewie has had his 2nd dose of baytril today, and seems to be getting a little better now, but his nose has become very sore, and a little bloody from it running so much, Frodo is really poorly, I am really not sure he is going to ,make it through the night! On saying that Stewie was really bad yesterday, but not as lethargic, or as skinny. Frodo was started on Baytril and Critical care at about 7/7.30pm, so am keeping my fingers crossed.

I really do need your prayers for Frodo because he is one of my best friends, and is only 4 years old, but also because 8 years ago to the day I was sat watching my father passing away from a terminal illness, and heart attack before my very eyes, and he passed on the 9th April which is tomorrow, so is really hitting me hard (sorry if that sounds a bit selfish). I love frodo very much, and he dosn't deserve to be taken yet, as he has never really been a poorly piggy , and usually enjoys life to the full, and has recently been given a new cage mate who is currently very upset that they cant be together, whom he loves very much!

I also need best wishes sent to Stewie and my other 36 Guinea pigs, and 2 rabbits, as am now extremely worried that they are all going to get it! It happened with both Stewie, and Frodo very, very quickly, with absolutely no early warning signs.

My daughter and I were outside the house and inside the house checking every piggy tonight, just incase, with Baytril on hand incase we needed it (touch wood, but so far only 2 are affected.) We Were using hand wipes in between each hutch/cage to stop the spread hopefully.

I know this sounds crazy with Covid 19 going around, and large amounts of people dying on a daily basis, and my heart and thoughts go out to everyone who has been affected by this dreadful disease, but please don't think bad of me, it's just that my Guinea pigs and other pets are all my very best friends, and family, and are so important to me, as they have helped me through many bad things that have happened in the last few years.

My human family is very tiny, and I hold them very, very dear to my heart, more than anything else in fact, but as said, my fur babies are also my family too.

Many, many thanks for your understanding.

Fingers and paws firmly crossed for you and the poorly piggies. Hope they make a speedy recovery  :luv:
I don’t know much about URI’s but I think it’s my understanding that they are contagious. Can you separate them in a completely different room to the other piggies?

Sending healing vibes from my herds to your poorly piggies, and to you to be strong, x

I understand your anxiety about your Piggies completely and everyone on this forum won't judge you for it. I have a poorly piggy I am syringe feeding and giving gut motility drugs too and I'm worried about her. I too think like you. There are people dying and I'm worried about a guinea pig. They are members of your family and you love and look after them. Don't feel bad about what you are doing. It is right for you atm and that is all anyone can do. If you were worried about a cat or dog then more people would understand. Piggies are still pets just because they are smaller doesn't make how you feel about them any different.

Fingers firmly crossed. Sending healing vibes.
Don't feel bad about worrying because your piggy is unwell, they are just as much a member of your family as any human. Just because they are small and furry doesn't mean we love them any less..xx

Don't feel bad, you're dealing with your own personal situation & others are all dealing with theirs.

You're there for your pets, they're your dependants and responsibility and you're doing right by them.
It's only natural to have your protective & maternal instincts come out strongly for family first.

Healing vibes to them both for a full & speedy recovery, I hope all your herd/other pets all stay well & healthy. :luv:

T-care stay safe yourselves too
Xx

Hugs to you x Hope Stewart Little and Frodo makes a full recovery x
