Fruit and Veg shop

Going to ask my local fruit and veg shop if I can have any leafs ect that they dont sell! Spending so much on veg at the mo and I did ask them about 6 months ago and they said yes, but never took it up as we only had one rescue in then. Feel silly asking but OH said if you dont ask you dont get!

hubby gets lots from the organic shop and fruit and veggie shop in the country great idea it saves a fortune

I know what you mean Mary does cost alot! I've been into town today though and just happened to walk past the market and thought i would get some carrots and a cabbage for mine, i got a huge bowlfull of carrots for 50p and 2 savoy cabbages that were 50p for both as well, then i saw boxes full of cauliflower leaves waiting to be thrown out so i asked the man if i could have some of those as well for my rabbits and guinea pigs and he filled a carrier bag full for me. When i came to pay he said "oh its nearly the end of the day just give me 50p for all that" I was well chuffed! my lot are in for a feast tonight!

Mary, if ever i go again i will get more if you like and bring some round for you.

It's a good idea, as my numbers are down now, I just buy what I need from Asda, I generally have the healthiest looking basket at the checkout. If only people new the only thing I am likely to eat is the bar of chocolate under the spring greens >

Fresh food spoils so easily, I try and buy litle and often, but I would never turn down some nice free veggies for them. My sister and friend pass on anything they don't use and my hubby gets odds and ends from work for them

Thanks Julie! But dont out your way as I went to the local fruit and veg shop and they said they will put me a couple of carry bags by for me and its ok to go to pick them up 3 times a week! So my pigs are sorted!

I was in morrisons the other week and under the veg stand was a box of cauli leaves. I asked the lad if I could have some and came home with a carrier stuffed full with lovely fresh leaves. what did pig do? Stuck his nose in the air and demanded to know where his expensive spinach and kale were! >

Always ask any fruit and veg market stall or shop if they have any greens you can have for your furries ! It never hurts to ask, mind you I always find it embarrassing rummaging in the boxes at the back of the stall for greens ! :
