My vet has advised me to syringe Gizmo with at least 20 mls of water daily to help with the flushing of his bladder and suggested that i can use juice watered down to encourage him to drink. Are there any safe juices? I have tried cranberry juice but he dosent like it.

He also said that i can give the vitamin C tablets that go in drinks and some pigs like that, but i cant see Gizmo liking it as he dosent like any fruit! He does like his metacam which is honey flavoured so i wonder are any juices out there that taste like that?

If not i will stick to the water, just i thought he may drink more by himself if it was something he liked.

Hi

Two of my guineas have to have extra fluids to ensure their bladders are flushed regularly, they have both suffered bladderstones and cystitis despite being well managed (low calcium diet, filtered water etc).

I give mine 15ml each morning and evening, more if they are passing a lot of sludge or squeeking when they pass water.

I use vegetable juice or tomatoe juice. Just 1 ml mixed in and Gizmo will be begging you for it! Mine take the syring easily and have for over 18 months now and it seems to be working so far!

Hope that helps!

Thank you both, i did think of veg juice and carrot juice this morning when i had a brainwave :)) I did pop to asda earlier but they didnt have any in the juice aisle and then i forgot to look by the squash etc.

Will have to go back out down to tesco and see if they have any.

:)

Hiya, sorry that poor Gizmo is unwell at the moment.

When my Daisy (RIP) had her bladder op in April, after seeking advice on here, I syringe fed her a few mls of cranberry juice mixed with water each day. This did help her and her urine became less concentrated.

Hope this helps you anyway. I know Wiebke and a few others gave advice and it really did help Daisy.

Just wanted to update that i have been giving the boys some v8 vegetable juice mixed with some water and then syringing it to them, they love it and never dribble any! Its a big hit hear which is great from Gizmo and Joey likes it too.

Thank you all.

:)

Have you tried him with a glass water bottle? Mine drink loads more since I got it x

Yeah they have one of those but i only bought it last week, they do seem to be drinking more from it and my mum said that Gizmo has been drinking quite alot from it, so hopefully that is helping too. :)
