Hi all still quite new to all this :), we are giving the GP's fruit & veg once a day usually when the girls get home from school so they can help.
Do you give you GP's fruit/veg once a day or more often, I dont want to overfeed them by giving them too much.

Hi! Welcome to the forum!

A good diet consists of LOTS of hay (which should make up for up to 80% of their diet), topped up pellets until they are 6-9 months old and then slowly reduced to one handful. Mixed vegetables should make 50g/1 cupful per piggy per day, but you are free to give them in one or more servings. Most people on here feed in the mornings and in the evenings. Fruit should be given only sparingly as a treat, too much too often can lead to diabetes and mouth sores which can make piggies go off food.

Here is a link on how to best balance your diet:

I feed mine veg once a day, as I have so many - they get dry food and hay in the mornings, and more hay and veg in the evening, so I can sit and watch them munch!

My kitchen pigs (who are various special needs, recuperating, pregnant) get veg pretty much on demand rolleyes

I usually give mine green veggies once a day (any lettuce except iceberg, carrot tops, mixed salad leaves, dandelions), and try to give sweeter veggies every two or three days (carrots, pepper etc.) then about once a week I give them things like apple.

My girls get some veg+hay in the mornings and i fill up there dry mix whenever it needs it. They then get some more veg in the evenings and hay/grass if they need it.

My lot get their veg in the evening, just before we eat rolleyes

I top up their hay/pellets before I go to bed.

My girls get their hay before Igo to work, along with their pellets (although they're not really eating many pellets at the moment..) They occassionally get a veggie treat in the morning, a carrot maybe, but not every day.

They get their veggies when I get home (before our tea) and maybe some herbs/grass/other veggie treat when I cover them over before bed.

I think I am being owned by my crew, rather than the other way round reading this!

If I tried to limit my lot to one cup of dry food a day there would be a riot!

They start screaming for breakfast as soon as I get up. I have to give them their fresh brekkie before I can even have a coffee for myself. I am 'allowed' to have a shower first, but not at weekends as I get up later and they make sure I know they must come first:-)

Fresh supper is served when I come up to bed. They also get annoyed if I try to stay up late and start running up and down making a racket until I come up to feed them.

I am 'told' when a fresh hay top up is required as Lara starts banging the ramp until I come up and comply with the demand.

I think we can all tell who the alpha female is in this house (and its not me)

My two lads have hay and pellets always available - fresh hay put in daily and pellets replnished when the bowl is empty.
First thing in the morning thay have one (small) sultana each, which they wheek for the minute I start getting my porridge wih sultana breakfast ready.
Last thing at night they get one "veggie" flavoured yoghurt drop each. I just say "yoggie drops" and they're there....
They have smallish bits of veg, mainly cabbage and carrot, at various times throughout the day. My partner works a 3 shift pattern and I work two shifts, so difficult to have a definite routine. The minute they hear a key in the door they start wheeking as they know who ever is coming in will give the a "litle something".
They very occasionally have a small piece of apple or satsuma. Most Saturdays they have a very small piece of banana, when i make smoothies for the humans inthe house.

I use to just give mine their veg once a day with hay topped up morning and evening (Or whenever they ran out)

But i felt i should change it as they are in their cage from 10ish at night until i get back from work about 5-6ish in the evening and so i now give them veggies in the morning too- i just split their ususal evening veggies into two now.

I feel this gives them something to look forward to in the morning and hopefully breaks the time up for them- i do worry about my piggies getting bored!
