Hello there,

My piggy Belle is a bad patient. She's very tame so doesn't take nonsense. She's been on a number of antibiotics to try and get rid of a wheeze she's had for months. Nothing seems to be working.

The small furries vet we see has switched her meds which today has resulted in diarrhea. So I've been given probiotics (fibreplex) to give her. This tube is a massive thing and I have now wasted 3ml of a 15ml tube trying to get it down the neck of this princess of a guinea. It's like a giant syringe with a twist limiter but frustratingly, It has a slight delay between pressing and it actually coming out in which time Belle has moved and its gone all over the place wasted. Spoon doesn't work either. Would it effect the effectiveness if I was to use a smaller syringe (at least that doesn't have a delay) or would the viscosity of it just clog a 1ml syringe?

Just all round frustration as I've had to bum bath Belle four times today which I don't want to do because of her chest infection. There's poo everywhere. Everyone else is walking in it. I can't wash the fleece cause my machine is broken thanks to said guinea pig fleece breaking the motor. Now this probiotic nightmare so if anyone can help out a very frustrated piggy mum after a very bad day it would be very much appreciated.

Sorry for the rant. Now I'm off to make tea with the pigs driving me mad with bar biting cause wet food is now off the menu for the lot of them because Belle certainly won't tollerate the rest of her herd getting veggies and not her. Pretty sure there will be no bars left in protest. Sigh. :( :( :( :(

Hi! I am very sorry for your problems.

Has your vet considered another cause for the respiratory problems?

Try freshly made 'poo soup' (live gut microbiome transfer from a healthy piggy) twice daily and take Belle off any fresh food until the poos have started firming up again. Most piggies actually like it.
Mix the fibreplex into some mushed up pellets; that tends to go down better. Many piggies don't like the taste and the big nozzle.

The poo soup recipe is in this guide here: Probiotics, Recovery Foods And Vitamin C: Overview With Product Links

We are all stressed out at the moment. :(
