Teenage Guinea Pig
I'm going on holiday on Saturday and am boarding Badger with my local GP rescue, they're lovely and very knowledgable and I respect them so much for what they do.
However, I'm so run down at the moment. Between Boris dying suddenly and horrifically only 2 days ago, and having to email them explaining that only Badger will be staying, my elderly budgie Blue also passed the same day, with no prior sign of illness.
I have outlined Badgers struggle with his dental abscess in the email, explained the procedure and his meds. But since I've explained this, they haven't let up and I'm now feeling like I don't want to board him there.
They keep re-iterating that the hole needs to be flushed. I've agreed, as I'm well aware of such, however given the placement and size, it is physically impossible to do so. My vet would have recommended I do such had it been possible, sadly it isn't. I've explained this, and said that while it isn't ideal we can't flush it, it is slowly clearing.
They offered to have their vet do a small flushing procedure on him while I was away, but given that that would include anesthesia, I said I wasn't comfortable with that happening with me in another country, and I'd look into it when I get back (which I will, given that all of my time, money and energy can now be focused on Badger).
But we're going round in circles and in the mind frame I'm in, I almost want to cancel the booking. It feels like my ability as an owner is being pulled into question. I'm frustrated. I'm aware this issue has been going on too long, I've pushed the vets to do more but there's only so much I can make them do!
How can I put my foot down that, no, I don't want anyone fiddling with him while I'm away? I literally just want someone to give him his meds and look after him!
I'm feeling very tender and upset at the moment and this just feels like too much, how can I set some very clear outlines on what is happening?
