We got Fudge from pets at home with Patch. When i held Fudge she tried to leap off me, when i held patch she sank into my arms and crawled up my top and sat on my shoulder. When a piggy does that you really know its the right one. Fudge had a little sense to her too. (i always didnt want the fact of the new kid on her own thing so i was taking home 2) Though there were many piggies there, Fudge just had something to her. But, she hasn't been people friendly. Though all guinea pigs (espically when young) are scared of people (i have been researching on guineas :) ) I would of thought after getting her in December she would of been abit less scared. But i cant pick her up without scratches or the risk of her commitng suicide off my hand.
I do bond with her, well i try.
Its hard for me to take her out of the hutch to clean it out. I cant stroke her. And i cant hold her.
even sooty (who i have handled since birth) is alot less scared of me.
Actually hes my lil buddy ;D
Why is Fudge like this? And how can i help her feel safe around people?

Lots and lots of patience, try sitting quietly just the both of you with some really tasty treats. It will take time but be persistent but not too pushy she's obviously a little more sensitive to people than Sooty. Do you talk to her often in a reassuring voice and then give her treats? Try that and then walk away let her eat and then come back in a couple of minutes to pick her up but have a treat with you so she associates you and treats as a good thing. Our Sully was still a nervous boy till the day he went to the bridge it was just his nature so perhaps your little Fudge is the same :-* :-*

I think sometimes they are just that way. Our Mr Chip is. Little booger kicks me from the side when I try to pick him up. ;D I scratch his head until he looks comfy and then I scoop him up. He will stay in my arms, but not for long and not relaxed and only if I'm feeding him. I find wrapping him in a towel helps him to feel less scared. We got him a bit older, so I wasn't able to handle him from birth, but I just had to have him because he has this spunky personality.

Our little Nemo, on the other hand, he falls asleep in my neck. Just his nature. ;)

It will take a while before she is used to you, patience is the key. However, some guinea pigs just don't like being handled, so keep that in mind as well.

Also, I noticed you said 'Sooty... he's my buddy. I thought you said Sooty was a girl? I am quite confused, which is it?

He is. Sorry, sooty is a girl, but i get mixed up with the he & she, espically when I'm rushing typing.
(was watching little mermaid 2 on pc after downloading it) Sooty is a she. But sometimes when
mentioning any piggies i put he or she for the wrong gender.
The only males are Georgy and Smidge. Until the breeder says Sooty is a boy. But he looks like a girl.

I agree with you absolutely :)

Just like us all guineas have diff errrent characters and personalities. Sometimes this is a reflection of their background at other times it's probably genetic. Traits passed down from mum and dad.

Guineas from pets shops have generally had a poor start in life and are unlikely to have received much socialisation. That doesn't mean many can't make lovely companions, but for the guinea already predisposed to a nervous disposition...it doesn't bode well.

Handle her regularly and gently. If she doesn't enjoy it despite your best efforts, you may have to accept this and allow her her own space. One of my girls Millie is very much like this. Not a bad bone in her body, but she doesn't enjoy being handled and is a very nervous Little sow. I still love her though :)
