Well as a lot of you know i got some piggies last week and they have been badly handled in the past so are very nervous. I've been going out to see them every day for at least 10 minutes (pouring rain doesn't help) and watch them eating.

I followed some advice given which was to use a shoe box and block them (well i used their toy tube which is as good) so now i can catch them within five minutes, i've began feeding them in their carrier so they associate being picked up with their food. (only doing it once a day and the other meal i sit and watch.

My mum is an alcoholic who doesn't listen to anything i say, she feeds my dog human food which i've said no to. I've been studying animals for 4 years straight and she thinks she knows better. Today i lifted the top of the crate off and watched them eating on my lap (in the carrier) they were fantastic and started eating within about 3 minutes after they got used to the noise of the tv etc.

My drunk mother crawls over the floor mallethead as i'm strict on the 'being on their level to reduce a threat' i told her to leave them alone and she put her hand over the top of them and started stroking Frankie. I told her to leave them alone as they're still nervous and she started speeding up stroking them and not looking where her hand was going. What makes it worse is she was quickly stroking Bobby who is the most nervous and she also used her whole hand instead of a couple of fingers.

Feels like a weeks work has gone completely down the drain 8... it's so annoying that because she couldn't listen to me, the work i've put in has completely gone - they're terrified so i'm letting them calm down a little and i'm going to put them back - start again tomorrow i guess.
Don't think one person has ever made me so frustrated, they were doing so well too - almost to the stage they weren't running when i moved.

Omg I am sorry to read this :( not only because you feel she has set back your taming of the piggies but I am presuming you are still fairly young & as a mother myself it makes me cross to hear of parents being so irresponsible regarding their kids.

Is there a family member who is understanding you can confide in regarding your mother's behaviour? Do you actually feel safe with her yourself? Big ((hugs)) hope you are ok x

-_- i'm 20 haha.
No one in my family really has interests in animals but they all understand i want them used to me and then i'll introduce them to other family members properly. I've never trusted my mum with my pets (mainly with feeding the dog titbits) but there's not too much i can do about that without leaving uni and i'm not letting her effect my life more.
I'm looking into moving out within the next few years so they'll be safe from her. It's just incredibly annoying she managed to take us back to square one in the space of 10 seconds.
Frankie began shaking after so had to put them and they began squeaking in joy (always do when they go back to bed lol). Bobby's being the big brave one now - food seems to control his life

:(|) Absolutely chuffed!
Left the guinea pigs to themselves most of the morning and i just went to check on them and lifted the towel up (they're bed is stuffed with paper and covered with a towel to keep the heat in.
Anyway lifted the towel and saw Frankie, didn't run at all and i even managed to stroke him :laluot_26: I assume Bobby is in there somewhere too as he's not in the main area and he obviously didn't run either, so looks like putting them in the carrier is working.

I just wanted to say that you do not go back to square one afte a set back; just give the piggies some time to calm down and then start one or two steps back, but they will come round!

I am very sorry about your mum and hope that you can find the happiness in your life that you deserve. You seem to have the strength of character and determination.

:( None of my family have interest in animals either, I love them and I'm planning to do the same as you. I'm going to study animal care in college (I'm 23 lol) and I'm planning to be a dog trainer or AND a RSPCA inspector/officer.

I would of simple stepped in front of her... she was drunk, assume she was drugged up (e.g she didn't know what she was doing) even if it comes over spiteful alcohol is a drug and it makes the most lovely people turn into horrid people. I don't drink for this reason and my boyfriend drinks barely anything now he's with me, I get so angry with him if he binge drinks whilst out so he doesn't do that anymore as he's got me to face hehe.

Are you working? If so, could you look into getting your own place, a flat? I moved out when I turned 17, I was in foster care. My mom has a mental illness, she's never been a cruel mom, but she can be very insensitive sometimes. She never says please or thank you and demands i do a lot for her and my boyfriend (which is now getting on his nerves).

I hope things improve for you sweetheart :)

They definitely seemed to have calmed down a lot from this morning and being able to stroke Frankie without running is a first so i think it was just the initial shock of what happened, looks like we could be back on track again :)

I've had this my whole life so i've kind of adapted to it :)
