Junior Guinea Pig
Hello, everyone! I was hoping for some suggestions from all of you more experienced guinea pig people.
I have a lovely herd of five sows in a 2X10 C&C cage. Last month saw the addition of the fifth member of my herd, Caramel, as well as the expansion of the cage from 2X8 to accommodate her. Some fleece was on sale so we were able to sew some new homemade fleece pads for the cage.
We also bought a cute log tunnel, which Frolic adores! I bought a cute strawberry house online which seemed promising, but there's some fluffy stuff lining the inside, which I saw Caramel nibbling on today, so I'll just be taking that from them. But I also cut stripes of fleece and hung them from some twine to make some curtains. Now it looks like a festival with all the dangling fleece everywhere! We also made a little pocket for the pigs to snuffle around in, but they sort of don't realize it exists yet. Maybe they'll discover it soon!
I'm really focused on doing the best I can with my pigs. I'm really enjoying how the cage is coming together. I bought a soft baby brush so I can brush my pigs, from time to time. I bought a new scale and I'm trying to make myself weigh them more often than I have been. I have a special fleece pad for lap time.
Right now, we're focusing on making fleece pads for the living room for floor time. I think it would be really neat to collect a few accessories and toys to make floor time fun. I would like it if during floor time, my pigs could experience things they don't normally?
So far I've tried a brown paper bag with hay in it. I learned to make a hole through the bottom because my pigs get scared when the climb in and can't walk straight out the other way. Besides that, it was a hit!
I was thinking a box might be fun for them? I'm not sure what to look for to make sure it's a safe box if they chew on it? Also I read that tunnels are fun, but the only tunnels I can find crinkle for cats. Would that scare a pig? What other fun floor time things can I get for them or do for them?
