A phone call to the rescue a few days ago was about a neutered male and his wife, 3 1/2 yrs old and needing to come in as the owner is pregnant and not able to cope with the pigs. rolleyes

"I need your assurance they will not be split up, and that they are rehomed to a loving home etc..., otherwise I'd rather keep them and rehome them to a family myself"

After reassuring her that I never split a bonded pair and look after the rescues just the same as my own she decided that I was good enough for her pigs. She did say that the male was long haired and needed a trim as he has some tangles - I asked that he not be trimmed as I prefer the pigs that come in to be in the raw so I know what I am dealing with.

Well in they come - and yes indeed he was in need of a trim, sadly he was too ill for me to be able to do it, he was dreadfully overheated after being in a carrier stuffed out with hay and placed in a hot car half an hour before they left. His breathing was very noisy and laboured and it was 6 hours in a cool room before his breathing had stablised enough to be able to have a good look at him, let alone trim his urine soaked matting.

His bottom - how he escaped flystrike is beyond me as they were outdoor pigs.

A vet trip later and he is on Septrin for URI and after 2 doses is already responding and improving. No sign of maggots thankfully but he does have some urine scalding. Once he has recovered more from the chest infection I'll be able to bath him - pet wipes for the time being to clean him up a little.

His name was Neo but as I feel this poor boy needs a fresh start where he is shown some respect I am calling him Mr Anderson. The females name was Magic - I've yet to come up with her name as she is so very shy I haven't got to know her much yet.

So thanks to the forum's generosity this little man's vets bills are covered. xoxo

Mr Anderson is very glad to be here (well he will be once he's got over the URI and had his bath). I'll keep you all updated as usual.

oh wow he looks so different, poor lad.

Anyway, nice to meet them, and glad we could all help, hope he is tip-top soon.

Well surely its got to be Mrs Anderson? :))

They are beautiful piggies arent they? Poor little guy, I bet he already feel so much better after his hair cut and bottom wipe.

Well done Suzy....again :)

Aww, seeing this just reminds me how much you do for your piggies. Mr Anderson is lovely and what a difference a decent trim makes! His wife could be Trinity? She is cute too. So glad they came to you - love (not) that the woman was so concerned but not enough to take care of her own piggies.

Poor little Mr Anderson :( thank god he didn't get fly strike as i'm sure she wouldn't have noticed and let's not go there in our minds as to what may have happened.

Anyhow, on a more positive note he is looking so much better already Suzy! Lovely to see where the fundraising money is going, they are both beautiful, regular updates please! ;)

Huge change in the before and after photos! I'm amazed he didn't have flystrike!

I think it has to be Mr & Mrs Anderson!

What a cute couple. I hope she finds her confidence and he is feeling (and probably smelling!) better very soon.

As she's his wife, I agree perhaps she should be Mrs. Anderson?

Another sad story, but thank goodness he's with you, and hopefully he'll be feeling much better very soon. Please keep us posted.

Maybe "Disappearing Act?" Nah, my vote is for "Mrs. Anderson".[/QUOTE]

Yes he does. I am becoming less and less amazed at how some people are BLIND to the obvious and how far into denial they are. The "owner" was correct; she could not handle them while she is pregnant. What she forgot to say is that she couldn't handle them before, it seems.

Oh aren't they a beautiful couple x)x)x)
OMG i shuddered when i saw that first pic with that revolting urine dreadlock :)>>> poor little man.....soooooo glad that they're now with you.
and BEST OF LUCK for Mrs. Anderson xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

oh poor babies, at least that woman had the decency to bring him to you (though she shouldnt have put them in that situation to begin with!). and good luck helping them to recover! love the name btw :)

Thanks guys - I have to agree she's Mrs Anderson, they are already referred to as Mr & Mrs so it fits well.

I crept down earlier to see how they were doing - snuggled up next to each other fast asleep, his breathing is almost back to normal so a few more days and I should be able to bath them.

Hi Pat, the forum members have been very generous and contributed through the pick-a-piggie fundraiser recently.

If anybody would like to help out with things at the rescue directly, there is a small wishlist on the rescue's website. I only add things that I buy and use for the piggies so anything donated through it goes straight to work. Anyone close enough for a visit is welcome too - though you will have to work while you are here, pig cuddling is expected from all those who visit the rescue.

Awwww what a gorgeous couple! So glad they are with you now, poor boy, what a horrible state he was in :(

Aww! So cute! Mr Anderson sure looks different with his hair off! Good different though! Magic suits the little girl. I understand if you want a fresh start though;)

They make such a great couple x)

I'm so glad she thought you were good enough! :{ to take them on......

some people, I wonder how you keep your patience!

Mr Anderson is making good progress, almost ready to finally get a bath and a tidy up of his rough cut. He's so good at taking his meds now that he knows to sit and accept the syringe, it's a good job that Mrs doesn't need any as she's still very shy and is not finding being handled a pleasant experience at all, yet - I'm working on it with treats (dried carrots seem to go down well).

The rest if the fundraising money has now been put to use and stocked the rescue with feed for the next 10 weeks or so. Ten 15kg sacks are now stored in various cupboards and on the coffee table. LOL.

Aww beautiful little piggies. x) Thank goodness they are in your care now and can have a happy life.

I hope she's better at looking after her baby!
