Hi, I am planning to pick up my new young piggies today and the breeder has been very honest in that they have had a slight fungal infection (which they caught from their Mum), that has and is being treated. I believe they have been checked over by a vet nurse and has said that the infection has passed. Their is new hair growth. I am going over to meet with the breeder and talk about this, and planning to bring them home too.

Wondered if anyone has any advice? If they are in general good health and will not be stressed by the new home, then my main concern is if it is contagious.

What questions should I ask?

Thank you.

Can you ask whether it is ringworm and what to look out for and treat with in case it makes a return?

Ringworm is the most frequent (and contagious) form of fungus, so be sure to wash your hands carefully before and especially after you handle the guinea pigs and their equipment. If treating, use an old pullover just for that purpose.

here is more info on fungus:

Hi Lisa, I hope all goes well when collecting your two new piggies. :)

The main thing I would wish to know is how they were treated for the fungal infection and how long any treatment lasted for.

what ive always done lisa is separate them anyway from other guineas you may have or animals, just incase, then you/vet can check them before putting them in the same room.

dont always trust what people say i learnt this very fast, people will say anything so you have the guineas off them. i mean why spend money on something that they want rid of?

Hi, further to my post a few days ago. My two piggies are gorgeous. Their skin looked ok when I bought them home, and the hair was growing back. HOWEVER, yesterday I thought it might not be clearing up and today it is definitely worse. I have been using neem cream twice a day which the breeder gave to me. I was happy to bring them home as they seemed well, and still do, but now where the hair is growing back try have new bald patches and both have crusty spots on their back.

I have booked to see a vet tomorrow.
