I noticed that last night that my boy BillyPig has some clumpy dry skin on his lower back. He's been losing some hair too & if you pull it you get a little clump of skin on the end - conclusion fungal infection. I already have some Nizoral shampoo along with Coconeem melt and Manuka & Neem shampoo from GG so he'll be treated today, no problem. Two small questions though - I have 7 other pigs which live with him and apart from one who is shedding a small amount of hair the others don't show any signs of infection at all. Stupid question I know but do I need to bath all the others too? In the past if one has a hint of anything I've done a job-lot with them all but is this strictly necessary? Secondly, can anyone recommend an anti-fungal cage spray for their hutch so I can get rid of any nasties that might be hiding in there? Thanks v much. xx

Good questions - I'd like to know the answers too. I think I'd do the lot - mostly so that if any are carrying it but not susceptible to it they won't give it back to BillyPig. For the cages, I don't know. Would Jeyes Fluid do the job on fungal?

I think several of the rescues/ boarding places on here have recommended Virkon to disinfect hutches. :)

Suzy - Ahh, I hadn't considered the re-infection aspect. I was just thinking of bathing the other pigs uneccessarily as they hate it (especially Carmen who screams the place down!) Have done BP so far & have temporary living quarters set-up in my dining room so I can bring the others in to do tomorrow. They can stay in for a few days then to keep warm & avoid this horrible weather!

Flips - Cheers. Have just ordered some Virkon. Sounds potent stuff so hopefully will finish off any lurking bugs/spores, etc.

xx

I have to say when any of mine have shown any signs of mites/fungal I tend to bath the lot - sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear!

I currently have 5 piggies living together and I found to my cost that when Jazz, my neutered boar, needed a bath because he was a bit smelly (he's an alpacax)) once he was clean and dry and returned to his wives the little madams went for him - I'm guessing because he smelt different! He ended up with a couple of nasty nips and then calm returned within the group again (what a fickle lot!) so now when one needs a bath, they all get a bath!

Good luck with which ever option you go for.
