so the other day i was holding one of my my Piggies & saw that she had a Stripe of what looks like crust down the centre the on the top of her nose so i did some looking though the forums & facebook for what it could be, saw pictures that match what she has & all the answers say fungal nose stripe, also on the threads it gave creams that people had used one said that
Daktarin so i went to boots as i am in the UK & got some the only one i could find is the 2% one, so what I'm asking is, do you think this one is safe for me to treat my piggie with?, I know its not contagious, & by the looks of it lots of pigs get Fungal Nose stripe, i would just to to treat it if i can :)

Thankyou in advance:)

Hello and :wel:to the forum!
If you look at some of my threads and see the pictures of my piggie Crow Feather, you can see that she has got a fungal nose stripe. This is a left-over from when she had a fungal skin infection as a baby. It is not something that has just started but something that finished many months ago. Unless your piggie has signs of a fungal infection anywhere else on her body, it is nothing to worry about. Feather has had her stripe for more than a year now, and has not developed any other symptoms. Hope this helps. :tu:

I have dealt with a few fungal nose strips, both of my own pigs and some I saw at the clinic I volunteered at. I have treated with Canesten but the 1% version, you can also use Povidone Iodine or alternate weekly between the 2. I have always managed to clear them up but it takes a few weeks. I think it is best to get a vet diagnosis first though. The vet would also need to show you how to remove the infected hair. Those I have treated for a fungal nose strip have not developed fungal elsewhere but it is possible due to them ducking down to eat their poo.
