Hi all!
I have had my two male guinea pigs for four months now. My partner and I took both of them out for a cuddle and to give them their veggies and we noticed that one of them (Diego) was making a strange noise when eating (sniffly/wheezy) I instantly panicked and was convinced it was the start of a URI. A couple of minutes later he coughed and the noise stopped. After feeding them their veggies we put them back in their cage and noticed he was still making the noise when he was moving around the cage and there was another cough and the noise has stopped. An hour later the noise has completely stopped and we’ve sat in there for a long time and listened to check - no more wheezing or noise when moving around the cage. He is eating and drinking normally (still as greedy as ever)- no crusty nose or eyes.
Should I make an appointment at the vets to rule out a URI even if the noise is stopped or keep a close eye? I’m aware it’s christmas on Wednesday which is making me unsure about whether I should book him in to check? Or is it possible he just had something caught which has cleared after a couple of coughs?
Thanks in advance! :)

He may have been clearing his airways. BUT we can’t confirm that. Our advise is always to take them to the vet if you’re worried. They can both have a health check and you can mention the coughing.
have a look in the vet locator and see if there’s a recommended one near you - that’s if you’ve yet to register with one.
