The worse thing thats ever happened to me at the vets, which i dont think ill ever get over. Was the morning after i had to go and fetch Missy who had been put to sleep the night before. ( my iguana) And because of her being a reptile they have to give it an hour to def confirm they have passed. So the next morning i could go n collect her, i was still crying, had had no sleep and i went into the reception to go and fetch her to bring her home to bury her in the garden. And as i was coming back from collecting her body, this stupid B **** who was waiting with her dog, said to Russ my OH whats in there then? Russ didnt reply. And Karen the receptionist said its a loved iguana that had to be put to sleep. I was still crying. And then the woman asked.. ooohh ive never seen one, can i see her!! I just told her to shut her Bloody mouth and i walked out.. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: Ill never forget that, it was so obvious i was upset, what a heartless thing to say to someone.

stupid thoughtless cow

At college I get some sniggers for having guinea pigs. I was even asked am I an animal lover! DOH! :D

Liz so sorry to hear of Missy, that was awful thing to say! Crikey I cried when my last goldfish died. What happened was my Grandpa lived in a Caretakers house across the road from us as he was the keeper of the keys at a school, he had a fish tank and it burst somehow 98) Anyway dad ran over, we were only over the road so we managed to rescue all nine of them and they lived in a decent sized tank. I was about 4 when we got them and the last one died when I was 17! When a pet no matter how small is part of your life and they die it can really affect you, people shouldn't be so cruel! :(

yeah i totally agree, i always cry my eyes out when my guinea pigs pass away..even when they are just 'ill' when i was leaving to go on holiday and shakey was really close to death and I had to leave my heart was just broken :'( i should have been looking forward to going away but all i could do was cry and say goodbye knowing id never see him again :'(

i had two gerbils years ago. my cage got knocked over and it was obvious one had broke its leg. i cried and begged my mum to take it to the vet which she did. everyone thought we were mad including the vet who had this wot am i suppose to do attitude. i wanted him to have pain relief as iv broke my leg before and its agony. he ended up being pts. i was upset but it was for the best. one of my piggies had a really bad fungal and mite infection when i got him which was really stuborn to treat. on my third trip to the vets the vet turned round and asked me how much my piggie had cost me. i asked y and he said his vet bill was so high. he was saying was it worth treating this pig when i could just go out and get a new one because id only had pops a few weeks and get pops pts. i was disgusted. what did it matter if he was ill or how much it cost me when i got him he became part of the family and my responsibility. why do people think because an animal is cheap to buy and small there disposable? pops is now a healthy happy (if a little inbred) piggie. i must say tho some of my mates think I'm off my head.

I saw a vet once that clearly had no time for guinea pigs whatsoever (luckily everyone else at the practice does, several very much so). My piggy had recently had surgery and was returning for a check up and antibiotics. When it came for the injection the vet went to inject into the (non-existent) "scruff" high up on her neck and my poor girl screamed. Most vets inject lower down towards the back where the skin is looser. Needless to say the vet couldn't get the needle in properly and whinged "oh for goodness sake I haven't even got the needle right in" when my pig struggled and squealed. The vet managed to get it a few seconds before I was ready to walk out.

I still use the same surgery (two vets in particular and the head vet nurse are absolutely wonderful) and will (and have) trusted them with my piggies' lives. But I refuse to see that evil person ever again, I only wish I'd made a complaint at the time.

Some folk just don't care, do they?

Haha, I got that quite often with my piggies, rabbits and gerbils.... everyone seems to be very surprised even the vets. Have not met any nasty of mean vets though thank goodness, they are surprised but they do try their best.

I don't really care what people think of me at 44 yrs old sitting in the waiting room with a little box, it does make me smile when the vets calls out "POOKIE LEWIS" ha! Ha! ;D

When I had to let Snowy and Rodney go I was a dreadful mess! The vet even came out to the car park with me when Rodney went to tell me not drive for a while and if I was ok ! ahh!

When I collected Snowy's ashes from the vets people were looking but dare'nt ask, the box said SILVERMERE PET CREMATORIUM all over it!

When i have been to the vets in the past its never happened but when i tell people it cost me £90 to cure Harrys chest infection they look at me as if ive gone mad it makes me so angry if you want pets you have to be prepared for vets bills which are expencive i am at the vets tonight with Bit i think she has mites again i hope noone laughs at me i will slap them ha ha >:D

I haven't had other patients' owners being weird about my piggies but their are two young ladies who work on reception at the surgery and they are very flippant if not disaproving of me and my piggies. I like to ring the surgery for advice when i am unsure of something and they have told me: guinea pigs don't need baths, outside guinea pigs don't need worming, guinea pigs should not be kept indoors and guinea pigs don't need veggies every day :~D COME ON YOU SILLY WENCHES! Luckily the lady vet there is lovely and she likes to hear all about their little lives and spends time cuddling them while we chat. :)

I also have had funny comments fro colleagues, but I don't care. I only have to work with ignorant people, I don't have to like them. ;D

No i havent people are just interested and just want to talk bout my piggys like awww how old are they how mnays in there ?

We brought our boys in to have a check when we first got them at our old vets. To be honest they weren't in best shape when we got them from the rescue. They had mights, over grown claws, and a few other minor problems. (They badly needed a good bath/groom, and some TLC to tame them up a bit.) Merry had a weird spec in his eye, which kept going cloudy. The vet laughed, and was quite rough. He found nothing wrong in the eye(we are now pretty sure he is at least partial blind in that eye), claws, and didn't notice the mites! xx0 I was quite annoyed, but mum wasn't so bothered, and just said we wouldn't be going back if he wasn't going take us serouisly.

Now we have changed Vets, and now may be going back in less happy circumstances. Merry is very stiff and not himself, and I'm worried that he isn't grooming properly. They live outside, but I know my pigs, and he is not right. :-\

I have had some bad experiences with vets too.
Over 3yrs ago my Dad died and the piggies where dieing too, I would say one a fortnight then it got to more than 2 a week.
I went to my local vets the didnt have a clue so I thought I would try and different one, 1/2 hour away in the car.
We got there with 4 piggies and the vet could see Anya was the worst case, serve weight loss and he suggest PTS and he will do an Post mortum.
I told him no, as the conversation carried on he said that 'if I wasnt will to sacrifise her life to save the others then I should have the all 40 pigs PTS, burn my hutches and shed and start again.'
I told him polietly thanks but no thanks, walked out and never been back.
I was lucky enought to be pointed into Victors way and he diagnosed them with Gastroentrits, I sadly lost 30 of my babies but we got there in the end and you would be supprised to know that Anya is still alive and lives with my friend, stupid vet :(

I know what you mean. Some people even have the balls to say "but you could buy another one for £20" 98) >:( Stupid people, they don't get it, do they? It is not just a guinea pig it is a member of our family Grrrrrrrrr

ive never gone through that, but people do look at me cockled when i say my guinea pig and rabbit are my pets and not just for the children.

in my eyes kids get bored with pets so there s no point. i love animals always have and I'm proud of that fact, i wouldnt let any snotty nose people make me embarrassed of that either. ;)

well its really embarrassing weneva i take my guineas to da vets cuz they're called bobbie and johnny and it's really funny wen they call the names out it makes me laugh every time!
;D

I just like seeing the vets face when they have to come out and call out Honkey Wonkey Donkeys name.

When I get a friend for Honkey it will be called Konkey Tonkey Bonkey.

You think that bad as we are classed as disabled the water board had to be given a password for when they knock at our door, the poor person has to look at me and say....
Iamamuppet (I am a Muppet) honestly that the truth, I can not wait for a visit from the water board >:D >:D >:D >:D
