So Poppy and Pippin get the run of a sectioned off pen in the living room whilst we're at home in the afternoon/evening. They generally tell us when it's dinner and bed time by standing at the bars and wheeking at the top of their lungs!

Well, tonight neither of them particularly wanted to go to bed as when I wandered over to see what they were up to they both looked rather guilty at the mess they'd made on the carpet by chewing up one of their tunnels. I managed to catch Poppy and put her in bed and went back for Pippin. Normally at this point I fold the fence up as she's not difficult to catch and is quite willing.

Today she managed to allude me and ran up the length of the living room and jumped up the step into the dining room where their cage is. Poppy was wheeking away for dinner in the cage, probably wondering what was taking the hooman so long. The dining room is very safe as there's no electrical cables/small holes etc. Pippin had a merry time zooming round between the chairs and table legs that I couldn't fit under to catch her. In the end I managed to pick her up and place her in the cage (much to her disappointment). She popcorned about for a bit while Poppy wondered what on Earth had been going on.

Since she seemed so happy running around I have decided that one day soon I will piggy proof the whole living room and dining room (blocking off the kitchen as that has stone tiles) and allow them the run of the whole space or an hour or so. Whether they'll settle for their pen afterwards remains to be seen!

Sounds like she had lots of fun!
Esme used to love running the length of the living room, and this was when she was poorly. Her and Rosie were my only pigs I could let loose to free range in the living room, Rosie would have a little wander and come straight back, Esme would zoom up and down come onto her lap pad to go the toilet and then continue. When she was fed up she would always come and jump on her blanket near the fireplace :D

My old piggy was completely free range, no pens for him! It's nice to let them have so much room, as long as they come back afterwards haha!

Sounds like she had an absolute blast! Our current girls don't like free ranging at all. Cookie will stay on the rug and not go past its perimeter :)) Miss Moo used to free range all the time and would find any part of the room we hadn't 'Moo Proofed' and leave us poo presents there..

They like free ranging in my room, but the floor space in my room is less than their cage takes up!
Tia and Ruby are prone to running off if placed on the floor in the living room and without blocking everything off they may end up under a unit and never seen again. Teddy has been put on the floor before but he will just sit there, I'm sure if his girls were with him he would be off.

Your sausages do cause havoc at times! I can imagine them setting up base camp under a side unit and Mr Edward would be enlisted to shuttle them supplies..

I'm sure they would manage to squeeze into the 2 inch gap under the unit and stay there. I highly doubt Teddy would bring them anything, he would likely eat it all! He is a big boy now!

Pippin popcorning after you finally managed to catch her sounds like she had heaps of fun & was very happy with her little adventure! My Hazelnut is like Sport_Billy's Cookie. Won't go beyond the perimeter of towels or fleece I put on my wood or tile floors. Peanut Butter on the other hand is like Klee's Tia & Ruby, zooms off in a flash ending up hiding in spaces I have trouble reaching without moving the furniture. So, they get confined to the hallway or the bathroom or their playpen in the lounge.

Part 2 in the Pippin saga - The fence we use is one that you can buy cheaply in any petshop but we've broken it up to block plug holes etc so it's not as stable as it used to be. I was sat on the laptop on the settee with my headphones in and then out of the corner of my eye I just saw a grey blur whizz past, suffice to say I was up on my feet in seconds. Poppy had begun wheeking her head off as she'd lost Pippin and I was wondering up the top end of the living room searching for Pippin! Caught her really easily and deposited her back to a very disgruntled Poppy. We fixed the fence and all was well - clearly Pippin wasn't waiting until I did anything and took matters into her own hands.

What made me laugh was that she seemed to be on a mission, she knew exactly where she was going and nothing would stop her!

I always block off the spots where I don't want mine to wander, and let them have the run of the bedroom, hallway and sometimes spare room. They love exploring, but prefer to explore the very places they're banned from.
The front room is a favourite, they know it's where they live, and love running around there :))
