Hi.

My precious pig is 7years old (Pebbles) and has recently been diagnosed with heart failure. I have no idea if this is a possible cause of the fur loss, I highly doubt it as it wouldn’t make much sense.

Shes loosing fur on her belly, close to her nipples on one side. She has has this nipple lump/mass on the outer side of her nipple for over three years. We’ve seen vets about it snd they’re not concerned as she has no lumps that you can feel aside from the one on the outside of her body. It doesn’t grow or anything its just there.

Except I am really confused about the fur loss? She is covered in pee at the moment as she doesnt move lots and despite me cleaning the cage everyday (mostly where she sits!) shes a bit yellow on the underside.

Any help i will appreciate thank you so much.

gave her a little bit of a ‘wash’ and you can clearly see the furloss.

Hi

It is difficult for us to judge whether it is more likely hormonally caused hair loss (which starts on the sides/belly but can track up to the back - my nearly 7 years old Cerian is currently having the same issue) or mange mites (for which she has been treated). Only a hands-on examination at the vets can tell you. Either can take over very quickly in a very frail elderly when the immune system is no longer robust and organs are are not longer functioning at their best. :(

Sows: Behaviour and female health problems (including ovarian cysts)
New piggy problems: URI - ringworm - skin parasites

You may find our mobility care guide helpful in looking after the very old who do no longer move around much: Looking After Guinea Pigs With Limited or No Mobility

All the best.
